Title: video in request to smoke after loading
Post by: Scott7m on January 28, 2014, 09:53:35 AM
First of all, I apologize for that bad camera work my fingers were frozen in this below 0 weather.

I had a couple pms and request to do this video

I had loaded the stove approximately 8 minutes before I shot the video, had to have enough time to feed the chickens haha

But as you can see, not a lot of smoke, but more so than on a long burn after the bark has been burnt off

Hope you enjoy and i do plan to do more vids in regard to cleaning etc

anyone with a boiler knows its about wood quality and moisture content that makes smoke.  Scott has perfect wood as shown in his video.

put some green wood in there and it will smoke like anything else.  Heatmaster, not Heat Magic.

Yea im not saying it wont smoke with green wood, not saying it's because its a Heatmaster.

Wood quality is everything as ive said many times on this forum.  This vid is just to show folks that if you take care of your wood even a conventional stove can burn pretty clean.

This furnace having air brought in from under thr coal bed and over the fire as well does help to clean it up a bit more, but other brands will do this as well.

The guy across the street from me has a central boiler and his smokes just as much as my Ridgewood when he loads it.

I wont say though that this stove will smoke as much as lets say a natural draft central or a hardy with green wood.  The overall design of stoves built along these lines do tend to reduce smoke

Yes, of course, your stove and his central have nearly identical draft set ups!

I dont mind it either, where problems arise is when folks place a conventional owb in a subdivision and burn green and wet wood.  Then people start to complain!  Then because they can actually see the stove, they get more offended vs it coming from inside the home.

Im sure that if I ran a stove in a subdivision or populated area nearly all indoor fireplaces would make more smoke than me

With the wood quality and set up rancruss has, he could likely make it happen as well

This!!! My Hardy smokes like crazy but the closest neighbor to me is 1/2 mile away.  When people put their stoves in subdivisions and don't burn seasoned wood it gives us all a bad rep!

I only burn dry seasoned wood and she still smokes bad enough when I reload that someone called the fire department on me last week! :bash:

"No sir, my garage is not on fire, but thanks for asking."
