Howdy ya'll, I'm new to the OWB scenery (just picked up a Portage and Main last week and am now doing research with respect to the install. Speaking of pumps specifically, I've been looking at 3 speed pumps vs. a single speed (in both Taco and Grundfos)...my understanding is that these are the two premier pump manufacturers out there. I figure I will need a pump in the 15' head range and that will still supply a decent flow rate at that head. it seems I can get a 3 speed or single speed for ~ the same price ($225 ish). Any reason not to go with the 3 speed? Looking at the Grundfos 26-99F or the Grundfos 26-99FC (3 speed), both are within $10 of each other.

Welcome to the forum and thank you for your purchase, which boiler did you get? The Grundfos 26-99 or 96 is normally what I would choose for the outdoor loop and you don't want the flow check on that loop. Will you be installing it yourself?

Grundfos only for the 3 speed circulators. Even if it was $30 extra I would still want to have the 3 speed option. Coldest days you might find high speed works best, then mild days only needs low speed. Or just a delta T circulator that will automatically maintain your set point DeltaT. Whether its a Taco VDT or their Bumblebee.

Slim, I purchased a 28-40 off a dealer down in Tennessee (Nathan). He commented that he had reached out to you to understand what is turning out to be low flow issues in his home due to the fact that he had his air handler located in the upstairs of his 2 story home.
I purchased the 26-99.....based on some subsequent calculations I later determined that my actual head is in the 19-20' range. This is after someone on the site here pointed out that Taco has some good information for proper sizing....this was very good reading. I do have a concern though due to the fact that the pump I purchased is with "flow check"......from your last comment not wanting this on the main loop, I'm wondering if I've made a rookie mistake.

The flow check is removable. Just pull it out with a pliers before you install the pump.
