Title: snake charmer

I hate snakes.  Have a ruger single six i carry for vermin control in and around the barn. Does a fine job taking care of the ones that like to sun themselves on the tops of the woodpiles.

But down by the river when im mowing i see them big ole water snakes, sometimes 6ft long.  So fat I cant even suck them into the blades of zero turn, even with 36 horses of Vanguard sucking power.

I really like the xd-s and was thinking 9mm but shotshells im guessing would work best with a revolver. Would i be better off setting my sights on a .357?

You are correct, shot shells only work in revolvers.  The XD-S is a nice pistol, but unless you've got good aim you're going to waste more lead than it's worth on a snake.  I saw buy the XD-S and keep using the Ruger on the snakes  ;)

I wish I had to worry about snakes right now....   Any around here would be stiff as a board... :)

In all seriousness, I think your right. I've had my permit for a year now, and had a chance to try a bunch of different guns.  I'm not a large man, medium sized hand... and i'm looking for something comfortable for everyday carry.  Leaning towards the xd-s, but i'm also a fan of the sr9-c. Is there anything else you would recommend taking a look at?

Why do you want to kill the snakes?  Snakes are great to have around IMHO, smaller ones feed on insects and larger ones ones rodents and such.

They help protect crops and and keep the nuisance rodent population down.  The only bad ones are the poisonous ones.  Seems counterproductive to kill them just because you don't like em?? : /

I guess if your also shootin vermin then maybe it somewhat evens out haha.

Snakes and barn cats are the farmers friend.

Not any poisonous ones in Northern Indiana that I'm aware of.

Snakes take care of a lot of rodents, ditto on the cats.
