Post by: caper on March 08, 2014, 08:23:50 AM
hello everyone, im thinking on building a small shed to cover the heatmaster, possibily three sides and a sloped tin roof with the stove pipe up threw it,prob board and batton ,really rustic looking, just wondering if anyone has any similar sheds, pics or ideas  would be great ,thanks everyone

some of the best money I've spent was on a metal carport.  700 bucks delivered and erected on your site.  All you do is make a phone call.

I bought the 12x20 and put it next to boiler.  For 100 bucks more I should have bought the 18x20 and put it over the stove also.  I have a couple videos on a Nature's Comfort gt-220 thread and you can see the carport in the video.

racnruss, what manufacturer/dealer did you get your carport from?

I agree with the metal carport.  I bought a used one (18 X 20 I think) and moved it.  Put my OWF in the back left and filled the rest of it with firewood

The metal carport is the way to go, unless you need head room.  My last install, I was hauling wood to the house in large military trailers that sat high off of the ground.  I wanted to be able to stand fully erect inside of the trailer too, so I needed 8' in height just to get the trailer's sides to fit in and 12' at the peak to stand inside comfortably.  This install, I plan on something like a metal carport with a concrete slab and I'll dump my wood in front of the car port and push it in with the tractor.  I hate stacking wood.

I also went with a carport.  Mine is a 20'x25'  Versatube. Stove underneath with chimney through the roof. I installed it myself. Versatube has an an actual truss instead of just legs that bow to make the roof support. I saw to many pictures of carports collapsed from snow.

Here is a picture of my set up.  You could put sides on pretty easy. I left it open so I could see from the house what was going on.

I like the build Belknap.

My setup was a shed but is now closed in 16*32 due to my stove setup being an inside version.

Thanks.  I am going to build a 12x16 woodshed behind that to store all my wood under cover.

I have a metal carport over mine, heavy made.  I would spend extra money on whatever decision and factor in worse case snow load then prepare for more weight.  Just do not want to worry about this collapsing under a snow ice storm.

Really like your setup Belknap.  8)

If you have time, could you take another picture along the backside of the roof where the stack passes the overhang?

I'm just trying to "see" how far away your stack is from the actual side of the roof.  Thank you very much.

This is the best I got, basically a three side shed; back is open to front of OWB (in picture, boiler is not in final location, still turned sideways).  Is is from a few years back, i did put siding and shingles on it.  Opening on front is 9' wide x 6' tall - large enough to get to custom 4'x4' pallets in with loaded wood - easier to move with JD tractor.

Also, I ran a length of ganvanized pipe in a notch on top of rafter out to where stove pipe would be, to eliminate the use of guidewires to support chimney

I will try to convince the wife to take a decent pic of the stove/shed setup to give you all a better idea of the setup.  I would try, but the old bear paws can hardly type - taking pics might be out of the realm of possibility
