You can tell it's starting to get warmer out, fewer posts. Happy/sad
-
Yep. Not much going on around here the last few weeks.
-
Almost time for the boiler to take a LONG nap and get some maint.
-
Yeah good and bad, it's about time to take a breather from the boiler tho, LOL, will cut for a while then enjoy summer for a weekend and then get back in it!
-
I must say I have enjoyed the busy time her on the forum and know it will now start slowing down, perhaps we should all start some great political threads, that is always exciting!

I have to try to stay clear of political discussions due to finally getting off my high blood pressure meds. I have worked too hard over the past couple of years to have to be put back on them due to something I can control. So now when a political discussion begins, I have learned to simply walk away. I really used to enjoy the debates but not anymore.
-
I smoke, drink, travel lots and love to talk politics. Probably won't live to see retirement but I'm enjoying while I'm here.
-
 slimjim we gotta hang out!
-
So when are you coming to Maine. Coolidge lives about 1 1/2 hours from me but I can't get him to partake in the fun!!!!!!
-
I'm not sure but you can bet if I am out that way I will sure check to see if you are going to be around, same goes for you if you ever get around here let me know!
-
I'm guessing there is a better chance of my getting out your way.
-
Probably never know though
-
If you ever come through Illinois make sure to get a hold of me Slim! I like to drink and talk politics too!
-
Perhaps this year, I'd like to get out to Wisconsin this year and try to sway Dave Jacoby to the Libertarian party, he's on the fence and I gain a bit of ground every time I talk to him
-
Well if you get to Wisconsin you might as well come alitte farther west!
-
I would like that very much, of course we will have to get Brian to find me some work out that way to pay for the trip, Alaska in the summer sounds good!!!
-
Just tell him you have to do some public relations work and I'll get some adult beverages and take the Lund out and catch some fish!
-
That would be expensive public relations, sell a couple of chip boilers out there and perhaps we can get the installs.
-
I'll start spreading the word on the chip boilers!
-
We should be up and running here late today, hopefully on our way towards home this weekend.
-
Awesome! That's funny you mentioned your progress I was just going to ask how it was going out there, glad to hear its going good and looking forward to seeing some pictures of the install
-
I'll try to get somebody to help me post some of them, not sure what the homeowner will allow though as he likes his privacy. We did 3 sidearms for hot water, doing one pool heat exchanger( titanium as he may use saltwater ), 3 water to air rads in the ductwork and near future, ( this summer ) a greenhouse, they will be batch firing the chip burner as I do not think there will be load enough on it to warrant running it all summer.
-
So as far as the cooling thing we talked about slim look up absorption refrigeration.
-
Will do! Thanks!
-
You bet bud!
-
Veeeeery interesting, I always wondered how that works, seems as though we should be able to air condition our homes with a wood boiler, I'm going to have to do some thinking and research on that one, any ideas out there guys and gals, ( SPRINTER ) here's your chance on the research part, how about it.
-
Pretty cool, wonder if thats something like the amish use? Wonder what the cost is compared to a standard freon system?
-
Well if you get to Wisconsin you might as well come alitte farther west!
...or you Slim can drive further south into the midwest and learn what "Hoosier Hspitality" is all about. :)
-
I just read if you are using wasted heat or say wood its nearly free cooling 2-9% of a mechanical chiller 91-98% less electricity.

Other than having to supply heat of some kind, sounds like cheap way to say cool a shop.
Wonder what the price difference is between a conventional AC unit and a absorption unit of similar sizes?
-
I will get in touch with my old man and see he has been doing HVAC for 30 years
-
Ok here's another thing worth checking out.
Google Stirling Engine or look it up on YouTube , engine uses heat for fuel I wonder if a guy could figure a way to make a wood boiler/Stirling Engine powered log splitter?
-
If a guy sat around at the base of a tree with a piece of grass sticking out of his mouth at 4:20 in the after noon and pondered that for a while, I would be willing to put money on it that he could come up with something that would work.

Lol it would just take him a few years to build it

Yup, stirling engines have been around for a long time.
Power to weight ratios makes it hard to beat a good turbo charged diesel though, if you want ultimate power to weight horsepower go with a turbine.
Just dropped a $4800 dollar reman deutz diesel in the skid steer so I think i'll pass on a stirling powered one.
-
Haha I know but they may be the cats meow for a guy who wants to get off the grid, I'm not so worried about that right now!

If I was to get off the grid, I'd buy a seed oil press and make my own bean oil then burn that in the diesels. Or maybe build a methane digester and let the cows generate my electricity.
Rudolf Diesel's original engine burnt peanut oil.

There is companies working on Stirling engines to be powered by owb to turn generators...

It would have to be quite reasonable in price and maintenance, for the most part I've found it cheaper to buy electricity than generate it. But I'm in a different situation than the average homeowner, have 200 amp single phase at the farm and 200 amp three phase, both could stand to be upgraded to 400 amp services. So by time I look at generators that could replace either or both you're looking at a considerable chunk of change.
