Title: Unhappy Campers
Post by: coolidge on April 24, 2014, 01:02:09 PM
Cant win this year i guess, wife told me to shutdown the boiler because it was making the house to hot when it hit 60 outside. Then wants to know why the water isnt as hot as it was all winter.( no boiler have too turn propane on) Then this morning wakes me up and tells me i need to start the boiler, its cold. Go look at the water temp 90 degrees after three days of no fire :bash: Cardboard fire it is, now running wide open. You would think after only three days of no burning you wouldnt miss that gasification flame, shure was nice to watch it roar.

Sounds like my wife, her mind is changing always and when she gets an idea, well there is no talking her out of it!

JUST A SUGGESTION, teach her how to feed the beast (OWB), then she can make it as hot or comfortable as she wants.

...or you just might find out how comfortable the couch is, for even suggesting!

:o I like that LittleJohn, but she seems too think I waste my time processing wood, I would love to burn oil for a winter like we just had and see the look on her face then >:D

Mine does the same, surprising how much heat can radiate off the lines and what not in the basement. This time of year if she gets too warm we open a few windows.

It is still cold enough here in Maine that I have not done this yet but I put my circulator on a light timer and set it to come on 1 hr before I go to work and shut off 3 hrs later and then to come back on 1 hr before I get home and back off 6 hrs later that way the boiler stays hot and you get hot water and heat add wood when needed

Maybe finding a way to wire it so the circ doesn't run all the time, just on a call for heat would help not overheat things. Even a variable speed circ would help some.

We really don't worry about it that much, if it's getting warm enough outside thats it's getting too warm inside, time to start opening windows and getting some fresh air in after along winter.

That's what I told her ,to leave the thermostat alone and open windows

What I did was insulated my ped lines in the basement and cut a wall switch in our master bathroom that controls the boiler circ pump. This way the house don't get hot on mild days and when she wants a hot shower she just flips the switch on and when she's done with the shower she turns it off. Works pretty slick

That's a good idea victor.     You have a plate exchanger I take it  not a side arm

If you see the tankless water heaters, they have this too. As an option, in Europe its standard. You have a full control panel at your shower. So you only make hot water when you need it.

Just because wood is an easy resource doesn't mean its good practice to waste.

NO tankless coils on oil or gas boilers in Europe, nice post sprinter

Yes a 20 plate. The setup works great. If we get a low of 40 night I flip the switch on and go to bed.

I can bypass my furnace exchanger, we run the boiler year round for DHW.

Better yet folks that wanna have a hot shower during the summer and don't want the pump running 24/7. All you need to do is buy a wireless switch plug that uses rf signal to turn your pump on before a shower and off when you're done. Simply plug the switch outlet into your receptacle I. Your stove and then plug your pump into that. Then simply mount the wireless switch within 100ft of the wireless outlet and kaboom ya have it. As far as folks with stoves further away you might need to look at a longer distance rated rf plug switch setup.
