Adding another water to air heat exchanger to heat my basement. Do I need to put a zone valve on it or just let the water circulate through the exchanger even when it is not calling for heat. The heat exchanger is only 5 ft away from the return line. Thanks.

better than a zone valve, have you thouht about a seperate zone powered by a seperate circulator.
-
We have talked about that before. Would I place the tee off of the supply entering the house OR off of the return from the first HX? Could I do this if I kept the original pump (Taco 009) at the stove (what my dealer recommends)? Would the tees need to be monoflow tees?
-
whichever heat exchanger is to be the priority should be first and the return should come back to the main loop within 6 inches of the supply to prevent ghost flow.
-
If I am understanding this correctly then I will have a total of 4 tees. Do these need to be monoflow? Would the pump go on the supply or return for the second hx?
-
No to mono-flo's when you use a circ and I like to put circs on the supply side

I apologize for the childish drawing but is this what it would look like
-
Because you are going into the attic with the heat you will need a plate exchanger, and it should be done primary secondary to prevent ghost flow and overheating, this drawing does not include expansion tank, auto water feeder or valving but should give you a basic idea of what should be done
-
Sorry for my ignorance, but what is the purpose of the plate exchanger?
-
If you don't use it and pressurize the inside you will always be fighting with air pockets in the upstairs heat exchanger
