I was visiting some friends this weekend and they have a hardy H5 wood furnace. Not impresive at all.all stainless steet metal with no curb apeal at all. The door was really thin and cheep latches. Heating a new construction home 24 x 30 cape 13 cord a year plus oil. I heat my 28 x 44 open concept house with with 8 to 10 cord.

What makes them not impressive? They have been in business since the 70's. They are very basic stoves that have been working well for a long time.

They are perhaps the sharpest looking boiler but seem to last very well. simple and affordable!

My folks had a hardy installed back in 98' its always done its job heating a shop and 2 level house.
-
the curb appeal and the amount of would it uses

Stainless or not, I'm not real impressed with the 16 gauge construction. Other than that it does look to be a simple unit.

Definatly not the best furnace but I gotta give them some credit for being one of the first stove manufacturers (1976) and they are still around, that's gotta count for something. Their new EPA stoves look like they borrowed empyres outer door.

Well, I agree that their not the best. That wasn't an insult, just an opinion. What kind of stainless do they use? Some is really good, and some is not so good.

I have a Hardy for a few reasons, first they are simple to operate using basic parts I can buy in town although there are quite a few dealers here close. Second I like the looks of them third they have been around a long time and that to me counts for something. And last I called a local central boiler dealer and he wouldn't call me back so that made my decision and the hardy dealer was here the next day and has treated me right. If I were to buy another OWB I would buy another hardy but there are a few others I would consider. With the new laws next spring I would probably buy a Portage and Main.. Either way I am really happy with my purchase but most of all it keeps me from paying a huge electric bill..
