Title: cold register temps
Post by: CRJR on October 18, 2014, 07:12:30 PM
I fired up my boiler tonight the supply and return lines in the house going into the water to air heat exchanger are both hot enough I can't hold on to them for more than a couple of seconds but the temperature coming out of the register is only lukewarm air any thoughts?

Perhaps the rad is getting dirty with dust? how hot is the water line on the outbound or return side of the heat exchanger while the fan is on?

Return line feels the same as the supply. If I turn the propane back on and turn the furnace on I get warm air. The plentum is cold when trying to use hot water from
owb for heat.

Sounds to me like the Rad, on the air side, is plugged up and the air can't pass through the rad, pull it out and clean it.

I follow what you are saying but I have good air flow and I get good heat when using the propane. I'll see if I can open up the plentum and make sure the hx isn't full of dust

Try closing down a ball valve on the loop about 2/3 of the way closed, you should be able to hear the water rushing past the valve, if so then I would bet there is a coating of dust inside the fins on your rad and that dust slows the ability of the rad to transfer the heat, pet hair can be a real issue, I would clean it then add a filter.

I had  a/c installed this summer. For some reason the a/c compressor is turning on and cooling the air in the plentum

It's been years since I've wired mine up, but you definitely have a wiring problem. For now just turn the power off to the AC.

Somebody that deals wit this daily will be sure to chime in shortly.

There you have it, RSI does a lot of 24 volt controls, I'm going to sit back and let him handle this one
