I have a question regarding my pump set up.  Outside I have a Taco 007 feeding the inside.  It goes through a 50 plate exchanger.  Inside system is pretty ancient.  It's dual pumps (upstairs and downstairs) on suction side.  The pumps inside are B&G 189134 pumps 1/12 hp.  A plumber friend says the inside pumps are moving water too fast. My downstairs has issues keeping up when very cold out (I know this is due mostly to lack of slant/fins in the kitchen and lack of insulation).  Upstairs always toasty.  Should I replace the B&G pumps with something smaller?  Return temps to boiler are around 160 I think.

Do you have any downstream valves you can throttle back a bit.  Cheap and easily changed back if it causes unforeseen issues.

There is a ball valve that I could partially close. I agree that would be a good place to start.  What is a good temperature to have at the baseboards.?

I don't know your system but I believe a 15, or so, degree temperature difference is a good rule of thumb.

About return temperature to boiler, you are in the ball park for delta T; just remember you MUST keep return temperatures above 140f (Condensation/Creosote/rust issue happen otherwise)

...don't have baseboards, so I can not comment
