I do throw a little coal in on the cold nights to increase the burn time it works well just gotta keep it where the air hits it the most. I can add 2-3 hours of extra burn time with 3 shovel fulls. That means I do not have to get up as early it is a win in my book. I have 3000 pounds on hand for this winter. Plus I only have 6 cord of dry wood the coal will help with my unseasoned wood in Feb.

Check this thread..  [url]http://outdoorwoodfurnaceinfo.com/forum/index.php?topic=4882.0[/url . It would help to know what kind of stove you have. Is it set up for coal?
