I have numerous locust trees on property, some are 30"+ at base. The bad part is they are loaded with 3-4" thorns that are hell on tires. Any ideas on dealing with them?
Thx

I like to store them in my fingers, pants, and jacket for later on when I need something to complain about, because cutting them up is quite satisfying.

Are they still standing? I have a friend that took a pump sprayer and filled it with diesel fuel. He then sprayed the tree from the bottom to as high as he could reach (about 10-12 feet) He made a trail of fuel and lit it on fire. It burnt the thorns away quick. I'll see if I can find the video he sent me.

If you gert (saw around the base of the tree) that will kill the tree, this is a good time to do it, by this time next year the trees will be dead the thorns will have fallen off for the most part, and you'll have real great firewood. Ive done to many locust trees.

My Father-In-Law fenced some acerage and bought Goats to control the locust on our property.
The Goats have been gone for 5-6yrs and have just started seeing Locust in the field again.
Setting the tree afire sounds alot more fun though.

Thanks for the tips.
I have heard that gerting or ringing the tree would make the thorns drop. I also was told about the burning deal, would like to see that video!
Thx

That sucks the trees have thorns on them, I thought sap was a big pain in the ass. I guess being really cold has its advantages.
