Title: DHW Question

After reading the different takes on DHW I'm going with a plate exchanger before my electric water heater. I don't plan on running my furnace more than the seven months I need it. When I shut down would I just continue to run my cold water feed through the exchanger or do I install a bypass with a couple of valves?

You could run water thru it year round I suppose, but it would also scale up faster depending on your water quality.

Unless the cold water feed is running through a water softener first.  ;) :thumbup:

I have a bypass on mine.  I switch it in summer.  After not installing bypasses the first time, I have put them in as I modify the system.  That way if it leaks or needs to be de-scaled, I can continue to use hot water with the lp tank.

Thinks can still crud up even with a softener, seems more people don't have soft water than do.
