I'm getting two full cords of split hardwood delivered each week for awhile. I'm just paranoid that someone might steal my wood pile or attempt to take some. Each morning I valuate the tracks in the backyard, sometimes in my mind it feels the wood pile gets shorter. Its my lively hood and how I provide heat for my family. May seem silly but I'm sure some can relate. I guess maybe the term can be obsessed, like animal instinct to protect his own.

Get 2 trail cams. One watching the pile and the other watching the first one in case someone spots it and steals it.

I had dead elm stolen from my back fence line that was 400' off the road. I was letting them stand till I had time to clean them up for my P&M I installed this year. At least they were courteous and cleaned up the brush out of the field.

bore holes in the ends of a few ready to burn chunks ...stuff with black powder ...cork it up and place back it pile .....takes only one time . fix-it-4-ya !

Until he accidentally throws that one in his own stove ???

If someone is going to come onto my property they will be met by my BIG German Shepherd.. I would think if someone is going around steeling stuff taking wood would be a lot of work for them... I suppose it happens tho...
-
if they really want it..they are gonna steal it no matter what you do..Pretty ball-easy is you ask me..I know your feeling about this..But I wouldn't loose sleep over it..

Beware of Dog signs go a long ways.

How many yards is the wood pile from the house? Just get a cheap motion sensor from Northern Tool and be awakened whenever your dog walks past.
-
Not too far probably 60 yards. Not home a lot... Perfect for anyone that would want to load a pickup full. Easy access from the farms driveway next to me to back straight up.

...more like Beware of Gun Owner sign!! 8)
Also like the motion sensor light, most people will double think what they are doing if they are lit up with a light

There's one in every crowd...and it's usually me! ;D

Spray paint your wood pile edge and top with a weird color paint then you can see if any has been taken. Then just paint it again when you take some from it. You can keep a good eye on it this way ;)

One trick I used at a farm I own but don't live at was to string up fish line across the drive. Easy to see if some one drove through. Put down some fresh saw dust and watch for tracks.

Take a quick picture the next time your at the wood pile and compare on your next visit. :pic:

Maybe a sign that says security camera, a few armloads a day would add up.
