Title: jonsered cs 2250s. anyone use one?
Post by: Rscott on December 13, 2014, 09:04:00 PM
Ok , the deals getting done on our property, so I'll be clearing soon. Almost completely wooded. Old growth.

I'm gonna buy a new saw. And the jonsered has some followers,  I like stihl, but I think they may have a bit of a "name tax" , I am not trying to be cheap , but also don't care what it says on the side of it.

We use huskys  at  work, they're a decent saw even though most are in need of maintaining. One fell in a lake but we're still running it.

I can borrow a big saw, I just need a handy saw.

Please voice your opinions before I buy something I regret.

Get a decent used Stihl 026. You can pick up a good used one for around $200. Power head is under 10 pounds and puts out unbelievable power for its size. I cut all of my firewood with one. You wont be disappointed unless you needs to cut alot of 18 inch plus wood, then you wish that you had something a little bigger.

Alot of my cutting will be stump cuts. So 18" would be my minimum bar length. I'll take 90% of the trees down with the excavator. Then stump cut and cut logs to length.

Doing it that way we can stump cut a 40" tree and break it with the excavator. Safe and easy. I need something light enough to use all day and enough motor to pull a chain.

I've looked for used locally, but it's wood cutting season, just junk available.

I've got a Husqvarna 450 and it's a good saw. I think its the same thing as 2250 just different color

Love my Stihl 362, don't care for the 25" bar, once I wear the bar out a 20 is going on. I have a 460 for the big stuff.

Only ever used one Jonsered, seemed like a good saw.

I went with Stihl as they have better than half a dozen dealers within 20 miles. Only one Sachs Dolmar dealer in the area and he's slower than molasses, also didn't stock jack so it was faster most of the time just to order Dolmar stuff online.

There's a husky dealer in edwardsburg,  close to work, not sure what they are all about though.

I don't wanna be hung out to dry if I have a problem with the saw. But I saw a stihl at underground pipe and valve and they wanted 500$  for a similar size saw.

I can get a jonsered from tsc for 330$   that's a pretty big jump.

I used to work for Davey Tree Service which is one of the largest tree outfits next to Asplundh.  Anyways we used Husky, Echo, Stihl and the only saw I will ever buy is Stihl.  Our husky and echos were complete garbage.  Stihls would outrun and out last every saw and out cut 10:1.  I am not knocking the other brands but this is my personal opinion in what I observed in over 8 years of professional tree work.  As for the size I would not go under a 036 or a ms 361.  They are a perfect all around saw.  They have good power and can still cut bigger wood without being to heavy.  Hope this helps you out.  Again, buy stihl all the way!

Just ran a brand new 361. Maybe 6 hours on it.

And unimpressed wouldn't begin to describe my displeasure with that  saw.

I ain't Paul bunion,  but I've felled a tree or 2 and that thing left me in a really bad position.

I notched the tree, then was doing the back cut when the saw decided it didn't want to run anymore. I was on a near straight up embankment with water on one side and up on the other, with a tree half cut. That's just dumb, we gotta do what we gotta do.

I pulled the life outta that stihl, full choke, then partial choke, till it finally came back to life, the whole time,  45 seconds lol, this tree is dangling.

Finally back cut it enough to fall into the pond. Wanted to throw the saw in with it!

Really? I've been nothing but happy with my 362, just seems to keep getting stronger with each tank of gas.

The 460 also starts every time no problems, haven't had a dying problem with either.

The only one I'm not real impressed with is my 023, takes more pulls on a cold start than the 362 and 460 put together. Of course I traded a couple of round bales for the 023.

We had (have ) a Jonsered, would have to go look at which model, but left it in the bush for 3 weeks hoping someone would steal the thing. We are all Huskys, go through the block while the Jonsered is gnawing at the bark.

Husky and Jonsered are pretty much the same saw both owned by Electrolux I believe.

Well I pulled the trigger today. Bought the 2250.  :bash: bought a forest and didn't own a good saw. Hopefully I do now.

Our tsc didn't have any; so I went up to the bog city and got it (they had 2 ) I've not cut with it yet ,it's pretty dark , but the first thing I noticed was how it's balanced. The top handle is dead nuts. Which will be nice for limping trees as they go into the chipper.

The huskys are very reward. I  mean heavy towards the back of the saw.

I could hold this thing all day.

I bought my wife one for christmas. She really likes it. For the money I think it's a great saw. I do the majority of the dropping and cutting with my 2260 and she does the limbing and cutting of smaller stuff with her 2250.

You are correct.  If you tear down the Jonsered saw, you'll probably find parts inside labeled as Husqvarna and some of them might even be orange.

I can't stress enough that no matter what brand saw you buy, buy the PROFESSIONAL version.  It's worth the premium to buy a saw made to be used and abused day in and day out, thrown on the ground, started and run for 8+ hours a day, dropped from a tree, rolled over by logs, etc.  There's a huge difference in quality and longevity between a homeowner version and a professional version and it's never more evident than in the Stihl and Husqvarna saws since their name is so popular and sold in box stores now too.  I've been professionally cutting trees for 16 years now and we've used them all, but we keep coming back to buying the Husqvarna XP saws because they have unbelievable torque and chain speed compared to the others.  For a limbing saw, I like the 346XP and for a log saw I like the 371XP.

For those of you having problems with the motors on ANY brand of chainsaw, I offer this advice:

Absolutely do not judge a 2-stroke engine on any saw until you are ABSOLUTELY CERTAIN you are using fuel that contains NO ETHANOL!

When in doubt, "spring" for a bottle of "pure gasoline/2-cycle oil mix" made by most manufacturers these days.  If this "solves" your saw's motor issues, re-assess the saw before claiming it is a POS.

2-cycle engines simply do not operate well with ethanol-containing fuel (especially if the fuel is over 5 days old; ethanol absorbs water into the fuel from the ambient relative humidity!).

I've taken this saw on 3 clearing jobs and still have not put gas in it lol. I have a can of jonsered fuel for it and plan on running racing fuel in it. The racing fuel is high octane but more importantly it's 0 ethanol.

Yeah racing fuel is like $6 a gallon but a gallon of fuel in a chain saw is a good bit of cutting. Worth it to me.

Ok, I used it today. This is a solid saw! It did everything I asked of it today without a whimper. I cut cross and along grain and it never offered to give up. Solid saw for the money. Makes the 455 rancher I use a work seem like a limbing saw.
