Title: Shortage Letting Up
Post by: userdk on December 16, 2014, 09:59:17 PM
The firewood shortage in Wisconsin is finally evening out. Earlier this year, loggers were all shipping everything to the pulp mills because they were paying $120/cord for it.

Things must be be much different in other parts of the country than Northern Indiana, here nothing is logged unless it's already purchased, if prices get too low only quality lumber is taken and pallet quality is left to stand, no ordering a semi load just for firewood, is unheard of here.

Yep up here at the end of I-95 the supply is finally trickling down to the home users. Just got another load to be on the safe side for next year. Paying 130 per 5000 pounds.

Calling for a load of wood here does not happen. Very little to no logging done around here. When there is some, they leave the tops lay and you have to go get them yourself with the land owners permission. Scrounging is our way of acquiring firewood.

Finally got a load. Had to pay $1200 for it, but it's well worth it.

We have enough wood from our property to supply our needs but currently its easier for me to
purchase our wood.

We bought 6 cords for $800.00 but it from a friend who saves the scraps and sells after hes sold the
rest to mills. Been buying from him for 10+ years between me and my father-in-lw.

It was a full semi load, however much that is.
