Title: one cast rad on same zone as radiant heat.
Post by: caper on January 05, 2015, 03:26:08 PM
hey guys, I have a lone cast rad in my basement porch, problem is that it is on the same zone as my basement in floor, and as we all know, radiant heat is only,or at least my is set for around 120 and as a result the cast rad never gets hot,lil warm that's it, so any suggestions ,or  should I just pull that loop off and put in on my main floor manifold where they are all cast rads, little work but it then will get hot I hope, and of course that will be a spring job...cheers

I am not an expert, but I would try raising your temp. to around 150 to 160, and see if it gets hot.  120 seems low?

Definitely separate them and put the basement rad on it's own separate loop

thanks Slim, its on its own loop, however its on the same manifold as the inloor, so I guess I should just bite the bullet and switch it over to the main floor manifold, there beside each other anyway, I guess I was just looking for a easy way out, no such thing, anyway ,thanks guys..

...You could try a little bit hotter, maybe 130

But since the rest of the loop is in the slab, you should not go too much higher with the water temp (bad things happen to concrete if water is too hot entering slab -> think BIG CRACKS)

I myself am not much of a radiator man, I have all inslab and under-subfloor panels, but I think radiators can handle water straight off the OWB if I am not mistaken.

thanks John, that's prob what I will try, just in case the rad gets warmer, just a sin seeing it there and not getting hot, and your right the rads can handle 180 no problem, my main floor rads are close to that and give off awesome heat..thanks again
