Title: wind chill / bs = pet pev !
Post by: atvalaska on January 06, 2015, 10:06:49 AM
Anybody else tired of the weather folks on the tube and their "wind chill" maps....u can't tell me the dammm wind is blowing the same all over a state OR that the wind in different in the upper half vs lower half of said state OR that its blowing all the time !!!! Besides, wind chill ONLY WORKS ON THINGS THAT ARE ALIVE!!  A dry wooden chair placed outside is  ONLY  going down to   ambient  temp !!  If your alive ...you are only going down to ambient temp!!  < only fast-er cause of evaporation !  What a crock of chit ..the weather folks only want to run around like chicken little and  justify their  worthless lives chasing crap that aint !!  there i feel better !

They certainly like to embellish a bit, don't they?  "It's gonna be brutely cold today with the temps in the teens".  Nope.  That's chilly in my book...it ain't cold until the temps reach ~20 below zero.  I have yet to hear a local TV, radio weatherman say it's chilly outside when the temps are in the teens.  But, I guess it's the only way to get someone's attention.

Where I work I deal with faculty, staff and students from all over the world.  Some are from climates where their winter temps are in the upper 70's F (to be fair their summer temps are in the 120's F).  I kinda feel sorry for some of them but not too much.  They should also have done their research to learn what the living conditions are around here during the winter months.  So I understand where they are coming from when they complain of the cold but the natives of the area should know by now that this is NH in New England and it may get a bit chilly at times.  That being said, when the heck is summer going to get here?   ;D  Roger

Maybe drumming up the windchill is necessary to support the whole "polar vortex" crisis we recently started to encounter  :bash:

It's like its never been this cold before, BS

All I know is when it's cold the wind makes it worse and when it's hot the wind makes it better. At least here in the wolverine state. YMMV

Driving home from work this evening I actually heard a weatherman get it right.  "The temperature will be in the single digits tonight and sub zero temps tomorrow night - I don't need to tell you to dress accordingly".  That's all he said about it and that's all that needed to be said.  He must be a true New Englander.  Roger

Quite frankly the problem with the wether people is they stay inside when making these forecasts up, I've been out in zero but it was dead calm and pretty decent, I've also bought froze my *ss off when it was in the 40's but with a cold wet howling wind.

I think its more precautionary that they tell the windchill temps so that people don't get caught stranded or venture out and freeze to death in it. -6 below here and -25 with windchill and I will tell you my face could feel the -25 below. Bare skin doesn't like those temps at all.
