So over the weekend I noticed that the fan on my indoor gas furnace (I KNOW, I KNOW -> belt and suspender!!! its a back up) start this high pitch squeal. The noise is consistant, in pitch and frequency meaning when fan is on, so is the annoying squeal
Question is, does this sound as bad as I think it is? Is there a chance I will be able to repair this, or do I just go buy a new blower?

It could be as simple as a piece of duct tape between the furnace and blower housing to get rid of it but even replacing the motor is relatively inexpensive, I just did one for less than $100 retail.

...guess I know what I get to due tonight, break out the tool box :-[ and maybe a beer :D
-
Does it sound like a rattle type of squeak or more of a bearing squeal?
-
First guess is bearing, cause it is a constant/consistant high-pitch squeal
...will let you know tomorrow after I tear into things

I bet its a pulley !

I was down stairs looking at my furnace and opened her, as soon as I opened the side panel the noise went away! Put panel back on it came back (AWESOME :( ) ; so I start investigating, the fan looks like its all secure and the noise seems to be coming from deeper, investigation continued...
LONG STORY SHORT -> I changed the furnace filter and the noise went away, even thou I change the filter every 30-60 days, for some reason this one was making noise.

That's a nice realitivley inexpensive fix over a new blower. Someone's looking out for ya!
