Title: Optimizer 250 metal band / upper brick retainer deteriorated
Post by: jreimer on January 26, 2015, 12:50:02 PM
To all those running Optimizer 250's, what does your upper band of metal holding the tops of the firebrick to the metal stove sides look like?  Mine is getting deteriorated and pulling away from the brick and metal sides.

What will happen with that band gone?  Will the firebrick fall out?  Will other damage occur to the firebox?

I'm on my 3rd year.  I go through 15-18 full cords a year. I've also gone through 2 nozzles.

I'm on my second year about 8 to 10 cord per year no real signs of wear yet but did just talk to Karl k about one of his replacement nosels. I kinda thought slim might chime in on this  subject. Good luck I'd be interested in the outcome...

I saw one yesterday that is on his second year that has split and pulled away from the box as well, integrity wise I don't think it will hurt anything guys but I think when spring comes around I would re seal the top of the brick with mortar, it was put there to protect the mortar that sheds the moisture on the upper portion of the fire box.
