Title: Metal in the Wood
Post by: woodmaster40 on February 05, 2015, 12:37:57 PM
Hi all, accidently threw some scrap wood in the boiler that had some metal (I think steel) fasteners on it. not a lot maybe like 6 or 7 similar to 1" bolts. Anything I need to be worried about? Will they be ok in there until summertime when I shut it down?

Yep, one of our hunters left some of those damn screw in ladder rungs in a tree, thought I had found them all except the chain found one that snapped off a long time ago, chain is junk now, just caught the left hand cutters and wiped them all out.

I found one a week or two ago in our bush as well. I don't know how long they been there but I suspect before we owned the land (5 years ago) as this tree had no top and was only a log about 25 high without a branch on it

Mine had snapped off and the bark grew right over it, so they've been there a long time.

Ayuh,....    ALL of my wood comes from a residential tree service,....

It'd be easier to count the trees Without steel in 'em, than the many that Do have steel in 'em,.....

No problem though,...   My boiler is a chunk wood boiler,...  the steel comes out with the ashes,.....

looks like steps for a treestand
i run a saw carriage in a sawmill and hunters are the
the ones who put most of the steel in wood
from lagscrews to 12 inch spikes you name it
you hit a half inch lag screw and teeth start ta flying
