What is the best way to install a new door rope gasket?
I've heard of putting in the silicon, the rope and then more silicon
I've heard of putting in the silicon then the rope
I've heard of putting in the rope and then silicon

I did mine this fall and went silicone then rope, then mounted the door and used another layer of silicone, then wax paper and then closed the door.
-
If you do put silicone on outside of gasket make sure and use wax paper as said or make sure and let silicone completly dry before shutting your door or it will pull your gasket back out next time you open it. I learned this the hard way :bash:

Make sure u use a high temp silicone used for stoves or high temp applications ..

We need a good instructional video on some of this stuff.

Ayuh,..... The 1st one I put on my homemade boiler, I used rutland door gasket, 'n the rutland cement,.....
It didn't last the season,....
2nd time, I used the rope gasket, 'n hi-temp sillyseal,.....
Put the sillicone on the door, then the rope, then closed the door to hold it in place,...
That was several years ago, 'n when checkin' it the other day, It's still just Fine,....

So you changed the gasket with the fire going?
-
Anybody heard of using a high heat enamel paint.
And an oversized rope
Supposed to come off easier next time you replace the gasket.
No silicon to clean out?
read it somewhere"

I got some from Slimjim that worked really well just as flexible as when I installed, it looks like this stuff. Just put some hi temp silicone in the slot.

Ayuh,.... Just not runnin' Full tilt like it has been, tryin' to keep with with these Sub-Zero temps,....
I used the graphite rope, 5/8", I think,... the smaller of the 2 sizes on the bulk spool at my local hardware store,...
'n I glued it on with a tube of red Hi-temp rtv from my local Napa,...
I used my angle grinder with a wirebrush on it to clean off the ole rope, 'n furnace cement,...
Slathered the flange with the silliseal, positioned the rope where it wanted to be, lined it with suranwrap, 'n closed the door,....
By next day, most of the suranwrap residue had burnt off, 'n the job was called a Success,....
It's been a couple seasons, 'n I'm thinkin' the top, 'n bottom could benefit from the wider piece of rope I've still got,....
Maybe I'll give it a shot, when it warms up abit,....
'ell,.... Zero° would be a nice gobal warmin' heat wave, today,.... ::)
