My post was hit by some junk. Why is this suck an issue on this forum? Other forums don't seem to have the issue
-
This place was littered with junk posts last year. I would like to thank the Mods for keeping the junk off. Although some posts might be lost, it's alot better.

Mr. Walkderdogman85, two interruptions in the last month are a walk in the park compared to last year. They'll be cleaned up by lunch. This site was so overrun last year it was actually abandoned and another site was started. I'm pretty sure it's still going, but I like this format better so I stayed here. It's really a minor inconvenience and it'll be cleaned up shortly. Thanks Mods!

Would switching to needing moderator approval before being allowed to create an account help?

It's been cleaned up.
This is a public forum so anybody can join, even mouth breathing spammers.
Unfortunately the moderators are just human, we have jobs and occasionally like to eat and sleep.

It could, I much prefer the system where you can create the account at will but your first ten posts need moderator approval. Most spammers couldn't create ten coherent sentences let alone posts.

I wasnt trying to be confrontational I was just asking. I was here when it was really bad last year and I went and joined the other forum, but I like this one. No big deal just curious as some of the others have to have moderator approval before posting and joining but I could see where that would be a bother to the Mods.. Thanks for cleaning it up..

Well not really, I'd rather have to approve ten legitimate posts from a new member than spend 15 minutes or better deleting posts one at a time from a spammer.
That one asshat this morning had three full pages of spam to be deleted.
Not sure about other forums, but this one does seem to be rather popular so it pops up near the top on searches.
-
Spending 15 minutes deleting posts was a bit of an exaggeration, I did spend from 7:11:10 AM to 7:20:18 deleting spam, while not back breaking I'd much rather have spent that time reading posts from other members and seeing if I can learn something new.
Unfortunately though we have a somewhat absentee owner of the site so things like upgrading photo storage has to wait until the owner can do it.

Ayuh,.... My hats off to the Mods here,... I'm a Mod over at iboats,.... ;)
Spam sucks on any forum, some worse than others,...
It's usually Moderator effort that makes the difference, but general Members can also Help,....
Whenever ya see a Spam post, click on the report, or flag, or contact a Mod button, 'n Report it,....
I donno what the Mods have here for tools, but a few years ago at iboats, we were Swamped for awhile,...
Thousands of clicks, 'n No time for postin' answers to questions,...
Finally, iboats blocked Asia from their servers,...
It's inconvenienced a few posters from downunder, but generally Asia is full of Spammers, not Posters,...
Again, a heart felt Thank You, to the Moderators,.....
-
I believe Sloppy already pretty much blocked Asian and Russian IP addresses.
-
My story is much the same as Bondo's, a moderator on some other sites.
Best tips for membership: When see spam, report it for the moderators to remove and usually block the IP address.
The earlier spam is removed the less that follows. The first spammer is usually a test, if allowed, then the big dump occurs. So, we can all help by reporting the spam.

The last spam I reported was about a week ago and it was actually hidden in a members post.
