I'm going to try that camping this summer. You would need really seasoned wood.

I imagine you could jam a small campfire starter stick in the middle and light it too.

Ya,, you could set up two or three logs  to burn overnite,,, and not have to light a fire in the morning, for breakfast. .

We made these last summer with our Boy Scouts to cook breakfast on made pancakes bacon and sausage let them burn and make a shish kobe and stick it in the middle when it burns out the middle use hard wood use a chain saw cut down all but 3"make 3 cuts like a pie the boys had a great time
