I purchased a boiler (P&M Ultimizer 3444)! Now to start planning everything else.
The Portage and Main dealer i'm buying the furnace through is out of Mankato, MN. He sells Rehau 1", and i've seen good reviews about the brand. He sells it for $12 a ft and $11 if it's over 300ft. I'm guessing I will only need around 150ft. A friend of mine also needs to buy some and both of us together would be buying around $450ft
I'd like to buy everything through my P&M dealer to make things easier but if i can find pipe through someone else for a better price i'd strongly consider it if it's rated decent.
Has anyone come out with some kind or chart or rating scale comparing all the insulated pex lines with the R-value and Price? or at least a list from 'best' to 'worst'?

I made some measurements last night. To the house it's about 80ft, to the Shop it's about 25 ft. I have not figured in any 'extra' that i would need for the install yet.

I'm using Rehau right now with good results. With good trench preparation, a good quality 3 or 5 wrap would perform great. If you go this route I would recommend Z-Supply.

After shipping you might be pretty close to the dealers price.
I believe they will only ship that to a designated loading dock.

I think it's usually around $1 per foot for shipping. They will ship anywhere but it's cheaper if they ship to a business.

On your Rehau, is it true 1" or Pex 1"? There is a difference.
I went with Logstor for the flow, it's metric but figures out a little bigger than 1" id. Depending on your heat load a smaller line could really hamstring your setup.

I bought my 5 wrap from them. Paid 3.69/ ft for 1" and they use rehau pipe in theirs. 1 of 2 types of pex that will go in my house, Rehau and Uponor.

Rehau is a good option. It can't waterlog like other types, but it is really hard to bend. If you want something more flexible, try 6-wrap foil insulation.

I used the 1 inch logstor and bought it from my dealer, I paid 12.50 a foot, but that was in Canada and things tend yo cost a bit more here.

I rented a house that had a boiler and the lines were only 40 feet long, but the snow always melted and the ground was thawed. I decided to spend the money for Logstor and have no regrets.

they need to show U values and not R 's ....how it works as a system > not the best r u can get at said items "thickest" point ...

A friend of mine bought 5 wrap from the dealer he bought his stove from. After it was all installed, it filled with ground water up to the top of ground level. So, from his boiler to where it comes up through basement floor, is about 150 feet of underground line all full of water.
Apparently, there was a hole somewhere in the outer jacket and after some hard rain it completely filled up the tile around the pex and 5 wrap. Now what? Well we came up with a solution but what a PITA.
Therefore, the next time I buy pipe it will be closed cell foam filled.

5 wrap survival is all how you backfill if you do it with rocks and gravel we all know what will happen if you prep and backfill correctly then you should be ok.

In this case it must have got a hole in shipping. We live in Iowa and his yard was just nice black dirt. Regardless, wouldn't have been an issue with foam filled.

Yep. Even with the foam filled you should use fine sand around the pipe.

I put my logstor inside a 6 inch pipe just to make sure and then a 8 inch culvert where I drive over it. Then back filled around it with screened 3/8in gravel.

For this project a trencher won't work so i will need a backhoe to come in to help. The guy who's doing the job has a wood boiler as well. He turned me on to a product called Insul-seal. It's basically PVC pipe with closed cell foam on the outside and then a thick plastic covering, then you pull whatever pex tubing through the conduit. It's made in a town just 30 minutes from my place, in SE Minnesota, and I'd love to give local business my money if their product can compete with other reputable buisnesses. However I've tried calling the company three times now, filled out their contact info on the website with my email and still haven't heard back... I'm very quickly loosing interest in their product.
