I can get confused sometimes, and sometimes I forget things, so bear with me, but...can someone explain the 'newbie', 'hero', and some of the other descriptions of members?  I noticed that there are a LOT of newbies, even ones that have been on here since 2008.

i have never paid much attention to it shockley but now that i go and look at the list it appears it has to do with the number of posts an individual has put on the board. But i could very well be wrong too, LOL.

If it's anything like most forums, it's based strictly on number of posts.  When you hit a magic number, you change status to the next level up, etc.  Nothing special.
