Title: plugged stove

I was gone the last few days and my wife calls and says the stove wont get above 130.

When she opens door it starts up but when she closes it goes out. dampener was open.

So today i rush home and take out the plate that slides in while stove is 138, pry it out and a ton of creoste fulls out and is all over the back side of the opening. Fire takes off and gets to temp. Lots of sparks flying out of pipe. Will re install when it gets lower temp.

N?ext year i will get it low and do a good cleaning of it half way through season.

I burned 1-2 cord poplar the start of the season and the idle fires last week i think plugged it up. it was bad..

Prior to the stove dropping way below operating temp,  I'm surprised your draft door didn't get glued shut by creosote causing you to burn up a solenoid. Then again the draft door was probably open for who know how long trying to fuel the fire.

i always clean around the draft door whenever i load the stove as PM.

Left that plate out over night to see how it performed and it does seem to use more but man it gets up to temp alot faster without it in there.

Does anyone one run the stove without the plate?  I tried to remove mine yesterday seems a bit warped couldn't get it to slide out  I cleaned the chimney a bit inside and all the crud just falls onto the plate.

You should get a real hot fire going and let it clean it self! I burn a lot of green pine and I leave the door open and give my self a good chimney fire lol! Self cleaning featcher I didn't have to pay for!

I do the same with mine, been using pine and branches as its been so mild. I have a lot more build up this year because of this, so I loaded in pine and cardboard, left the door cracked open,and got the nice flame out the chimney that cleaned it out good. Haven't even touched any of my good firewood yet.

I've got lots of creosote this year too. Been burning old punky and super dry junk wood. I do the same with the chimney fire, leave the door open and burn it out.

I burn some cardboard  every 2 to 3 weeks.
