Title: hooking up a Johnson Controls A419ABC-1C aquastat

I am thinking of hooking up a Johnson Controls A419ABC-1C aquastat in place of the stock Honeywell mechanical one that comes on my Heatmor. Are these ran off 24V???? im no electrician....my current aqaustat only has to wires hooked into it, would it really be that easy of a switch out???

I think that is the 120v version.
You would need to supply 120v to power the controller and then the relay connections would be what you connect the existing wires to that went to the honeywell. You can normally use a jumper wire from the hot wire that went to the honeywell to power the digital controller. Then you would just need to add a neutral wire.

I could check later on the number and rather it's straight 120 volt but d5knap, you might want to check with Heatmor on the idea of changing it, I think they only allow their units to be run at 180 degrees if that's why you want to change it

slim....i dont want to run hotter than 180, im ok with that....i just like digital....i am semi-OCD....lmao

Awesome, I only asked because I just handed a guy a Honeywell aqua stat to replace his original on an old Heatmor that he could not get over 180 with, he has no warranty left and can't heat his home well any more at 180, he wants 190, I do believe the abc model is straight 120 volt but I'm currently out of them in the bus and won't be home from the show until probably next Tuesday.

SLim,

I spoke with the dealer about raising to 170-185 instead of running the traditional 165-180. He said thats fine and lots of people run them a bit higher...thats just their pre-set temps. Over-all so far the stove is working great. a big step up from my natural draft timberwolf i had the past few years

I know you posted a wiring diagram before of how to hook up fans shutting down when the temp reaches a low point.....care to share that again???

Slim,

If I do order a A419 controller, i can use existing immersion well, correct???? Or do the sensors for the Johnson and the honeywell vary in size??? Im just hoping that if i order one it can be a quick esy switch out...I also like the fact that the A419 will give me a digital display of the current temp

It will slide in but not fit tight so you may want to grab a package of the heat conductive material we use on the well and then cap the well with tape or silicone.

thanks alot, you have been very helpful....maybe i should just try taping up the well on the existing honeywell and see if that makes a difference?????? Lastnight i turned the differntial to 5F, so on at 175 and off at 180 it still didnt kick on until 169-170 and then off at 177ish....just seems to be a little out of wack. The aquastat itself is brand new, possibly could just b the conductivity....thanks again for all your help!! Im sure i will have more questions along the way~
