Title: 10,000e boil over/Leak..........UPDATE
Post by: cartod on November 08, 2015, 09:48:55 AM
Just looked out and saw steam boiling out of the water hole.  Ran out and shut down stove (fan wasn't running) and turned on all of the furnaces.  It was showing 210 on the thermometer.  Water has gone somewhere.  Looks like it sprung a leak?  I cooled it off filled it back up and can hear steam inside hissing.  Crap!

Pulled the ash pan out to look and it's sucking air like a jet engine.

I bought the stove from Scott7m. Does he still come here?  I left him a PM.

I shut the blower off and left the water pump running.  It's burning like it getting air from down under the ash pan, almost like the blower fan is on.  It's still hissing.

Did you make sure the air shutoff is working ok? If it is sucking air and burning that hot, it sounds more like it is just overheating and not leaking.

Can you dump heat into the garage to keep the circulators going in an over temp situation?

An alarm is a good way to go but also try loading only enough wood for a 12 hour burn and keep the flapper clean, also remember it is a non pressurized unit so even if it does overheat during the night it will not do any harm other than evaporate the water level down to where you will need to add more water.

Don't think it was a good thing to put water in ur fire box ! Next time take the fire out and then use the hose and squirt the wood! I think the cold water might cool it to fast and crack the fire box! What do you think slim?

If it were going to crack it, it would already be done but yes you are right fireboss, water inside the firebox is not a good idea at all, I'm hoping the water inside along with the wet ash has been removed, a better idea to water hose  would have been a fire extinguisher, yes it's a bit messy but much safer all the way around.

No harm, no foul, as long as it's cleaned out well to get rid of the wet ash and there are no cracks then you will be fine, I would suggest that if you are concerned about the damper sticking in the future, first keep it clean and adjusted properly and perhaps purchase a fire extinguisher as that is ALLWAYS a good tool to have when it's needed!

Ok, I'm just read through this thread and I want to ask this.....Mr. Cartod, have you removed the fan off the back and checked for debris in the damper hinge??  When my stove overheats, 99% of the time, that's why.  Tiny particles can get lodged in the damper hinge during a backdraft and cause the damper to not close all the way.  If I have an overheat, I immediately go to the back and exercise the damper lever that the solenoid is connected to.  Open it and close it over and over and make sure you get a solid "clang" sound when you close it.  If it doesn't "clang" then it isn't closing all the way and that means air is getting in.  A 1/8" gap is all it takes to cause an overheat.

How long have you been running this stove?  Have you ever taken the rear air channel off and cleaned out the bottom?

Sounds good!  I usually get my shop vac back there with a small attachment and vacuum all around both sides of the hinge to make sure I get all the dust and debris out of there.

Make sure that you switch that open and shut the air supply doesn't get to dusty and sticks in the open position have had that to happen. Also like a couple said make sure the air flap is shut and not stuck open just a little. I have had a couple of these and the dealer told me good advice so here it is The stove is already boiling open the back door and check things back there first. Then turn your heat up to pull heat out of the stove. Then start to slowly add water back to the stove. First time I panic so bad that i broke my hand running to get a water hose so trust me it will be ok.

Yes, I must admit I panicked pretty good.  Very sound advice you give!

The flap had to be stuck open just a little!  After I cleaned it and vacuumed it, it has been fine.

I will add that I emailed my dealer Scott7 from here and he will not get back to me any more.  He is apparently just another fly by night and he can KMA!  You suck Scott !

Scott wasn't my dealer and he has helped me several times with anything that i have asked. Really don't think he would do that on purpose. Trust me I had a dealer from you know where and it wasn't good.

I think Scott was having some personal or family health problems awhile back, least that seems right but I won’t swear to it.

I'm not sure if he is around anymore or not, I did speak with him in the early spring and Marty is right, he was having some pretty serious family issues and was very busy.

Scott is still in business but just staying out of view for a little. He's had a hard row to hoe but he's ok and will probably be back.

"Very busy" and "Family issues" was never an excuse in our business!  Never.  I'm sorry for the family issues I can relate, but being too busy to handle Customers is not how you stay in business.  I was left out hanging by my dealer.

I bought from Scott early this year and he's been there for me the whole time. Always responded promptly to even the most simple and sometimes obvious questions. Scott may not have time to troll the forums all day but from what I've experienced as well as what at least one more member has experience he's never let us down. Scott's a man of his word and anybody looking to buy should consider buying from Scott. If any member needs his phone number pm me and I'll be glad to share.

I'll second what he said... I live about 7.5 hours from Scott and the reason why I went with him is because I tried to do business with guys closer and they never returned my calls.. Scott always returned my calls or he would text me back

Either way was fine by me

I hope whatever problems you may be having will get resolved quick

Make sure you don't bite the hand that feeds you even if the the food isn't perfect or on time, or it my not come at all next time. Call your dealer a fly by night and a few other choice words over a stuck damper and I don,'t think I'd call back either. And remember Heatmaster reads these forums too and if your really in trouble they may not want to get involved with a unreasonable situation. Helping out each other and blessing each other even in hard situations is grease that keeps things going.Bless Scott and give him a good word when life is busy and rough and he'll bust his tail for you.

I sure hope heatmaster reads this forum, because now I need to call on some other dealer that I didn't initially use for my home.  Maybe they could put a good word in for me as I have been nothing less than cordial with my old dealer, Scott.

I called him out, out of pure disgust long after I tried to get ahold of him for my problem.  It's nice to stick together and again, I understand family problems, but I used Scott who is 4 hours further away from my local dealer.

I didn't call on him for a "stuck damper", I called on him for what I thought was a leak.   A leaking firebox!  I still have yet to here from him and this is after several requests.   Now that I've called him out I doubt I'll here from him ever.  But he wasn't returning my calls when I counted.

I love my Stove and the deal that I got on it.  Fortunately I purchased a top line boiler,  I hope none of you are ever put in my position.

Pile on me if you want I really don't care.   I don't wish this on any of you, should your heater suffer catastrophic damage as I feared mine did.

Merry Christmas!

As you are keenly aware from our correspondence below, the system was drawn up and incorrectly put in place according to Scott.  Maybe that is why he won't get back to me!   But it was nice of you to pile on me when you knew all of this already.

Scott made what I feel to be an honest mistake when he drew up my system,  after it had already been installed I appreciated your help in trying to remedy it.  I never told Scott about the design error, and now I wonder if the reason for him not returning my call is because you made him aware of it during your conversations with him?  Maybe he is just embarrassed about the mistake?   This makes more sense to me.

Too bad for me I guess, I did not choose to have a problem.  I hope all the best for Scott.

Why are you letting me live rent free in your brain?  Move on already skippy.  I'm over it.
