Title: Sobering
Post by: Roger2561 on November 12, 2015, 02:19:22 PM
This is a reminder to all of us who put up Christmas trees just how fast an unattended fire can spread.  I teach fire extinguisher training where I work and I use this clip to drive home how fast it travels.

Yep, the wife keeps pestering me to get a real tree, the one mom gave us when we got married still works just fine and its the same one grandma and grandpa Banacki gave mom and dad when they got married, so that tree is over 45 years old, they just don’t make anything like that anymore. Forty five years old and still fools people into thinking its a real tree.

NIST is actually in my station's first due area.  They built a 2 story building for training at our training academy and ran regulated tests like that for about a year there before turning the building over to us to use.  They do good work, provide very useful data, and debunk a lot of myths.  That particular video is quite old, but it still is very useful.  A residential sprinkler in that room would have effectively put the room out and contained the fire to just that room, which was a big reason they did that particular study.
