Title: Cool down
Post by: coolidge on December 25, 2015, 03:38:14 PM
Looks like we are going to get into a more seasonable temps in the coming week with some snow. Shure wished the ground would have frozen first.

54 on Dec 25 in central Maine. Crazy

Same here, I hate plowing the drives when they are soft, just makes for a helluva lot more rock to clean out of the lawns come spring.

I have one of these, still takes awhile though.

Just leave the snow down and have fun.

The drive just has a long enough hill if you drive the snow down then forget about getting a semi up it. Not to mention when it melts then it makes a real mess. Needs plowed down close as possible to the gravel.

Send it back to Wisconsin, snowmobiles have been idle so far this year.

Our area of NH is predicting approximately 5 to 6 inches snow with some ice mix.  I'll take the snow any day over the ice.  I put the snow blower on the front of the tractor yesterday.  This is by far the furthest I've ever gone in December before installing it.  Roger

Funny you say that schoppy, I was talking with the local snowmobile service shop and a lot of people who had service done in Sept and Oct are calling to get them serviced again. I put the aviation fuel in mine at the end of the year and they start right up every time I ran them over the summer.

I bought 2 new Ski Doos last year, mine is the GSX SE 600 E-tec 2 stroke diect injection. The other is the Grand Touring LE with the 900 Ace 4 stroke. Since I started using Startron fuel treatment a few years ago I have never had any problems in any of my small engine toys, tools or equipment.

With the 2 stroke you push a few buttons on the dash and the engine fogs itself and they really don't want you to run it again until the next season. With the 4 stroke I change the oil at the end of the season and make sure the fuel has been treated and run through the injection system and wait for the snow to fly again. The 2 stroke calls for 91 octane while the 4 stroke can use 87 with no problems.

Supposed to be getting colder and chances of sleet/ice/snow in Wisconsin to start then more snow hopefully, I'd take snow over ice anytime too!

that startron is good stuff I keep it in all my small engines,no fuel problems anymore and I use the lower octane fuel.

I used Startron in my sleds when the ethanol came out, last year I had to have the carbs, and gas tank totally cleaned at the cost of $1200. That was for two.  I now use the aviation fuel for allmy small engines.

Not good, that's the first I have ever heard of anyone having a problem with startron.

A balmy 11 degrees and about 6"of snow. Need to rethink my loading schedule with the overnight lows in the teens, boiler was at 155 this morning, it's getting a good workout.

We got our first real snow last night, around 11 inches. It been a lot cooler as well, 16 degrees during the day and cooler at night. I threw in some "real" wood for the first time this season last night. On a plus note it cleaned all my creosote with the longer burn times. Looking at the weather it's going to get back to the very low 30's buy the weekend here.

Hardly anybody owns a snowmobile around here anymore unless they are hardcore sledders and don’t mind heading to the U.P. several times a winter. Seems just about everybody has 4 wheel drive 4 wheelers now so you can ride year round.

When I moved up here 6 years ago , we bought 2 snowmobiles that I found in northern Indiana with very low miles. Guy we bought them from, said he made one trip a year to use them in northern Michigan, and figured he could get more use out of 4 wheelers. We had back to back winters of very little snow and did not use them very much, so we traded them in on a Can Am commander that we can both ride in together. Of course once we sold the sleds we got record snow the next 2 years... But I really enjoy the buggy more in my older years.

I've heard of Rudyard but just not sure where it's at. We've snowmobiled in the U.P. for decades and taken trips through out Canada from Saskatchewan to the Atlantic ocean. Biggest one was 2675 miles in 12 days of riding, saddle bagging, and we never use a support vehicle. Now half or more of our riding group is in their mid 70's but we've accumulated some great memories.

But you're right, I get more use out of my Polaris Ranger than all of my sleds put together. Most of our county roads are now ATV routes as well.

Happy New Year to all!

Rudyard is about 30 min. north of the mackinaw bridge, about half way between St. Ignace and Sault Ste Marie. We live in the Hiawatha National forest, so the trails are pretty much endless and we are allowed on the roads here as well. That sounds like one fun ride you went on, never got a chance to do anything like that, sounds like a lot of fun.
