I am wanting to make me a longer take to help clean better. What kind of tools does everybody use to keep their stove running excellent.

Bought a rectangular brush with a 5' handle for cleaning the bypass at the top,use the tool provided for cleaning the half moon plate at the top of the firebox

I have a rake with a steel tube handle that I welded in place of the wood one. Flat shovel built the same way, and I built a tool that is 6 inches wide by 3 inches, and bent on the radius of my firebox. It is 3/8 inch thick and sharpened on the front then welded to a steel tube. This works great for scraping the sides especially in the spring after I shut down.

Welded a 8 inch long piece of angle to a piece of 1/2 inch rebar. There's my rake. Bent a hook on the other end. I scrap out the bottom also so my ash pan won't ride over any build up

All great ideas. Tell me if I shouldn't do this but I am thinking about welding a plate in my ash pan about 15 to 20 inches from the front forcing air to stay in the back. My thinking is the fire stays to the vac of the stove and heat has to travel the length of the stove to get to the moon shape bypass to head out. Anybody ever thought about doing this?

I think Yoder mentioned doing something like that a couple years ago on here. The ash pan is only warrantied for 1 year, so it shouldn't affect your warranty. Will make it difficult to dump the ash though! :bash:

I may just try to make it where it will tilt so the ashes can flow out.
