To get your fire back up to temp it is cleaner to use vegetable oil on the logs than used motor oil. Just a tip if you need the added boost to get a fire going on a conventional.

Smells good too!
I ran a Ford 7.3 on it for 200k miles, always loved the exhaust.3

I use one of those propane weed burners it starts wood in any condition in 2 minutes or less >:D

I've never had trouble with cardboard and some kindling. If it gets really tough, I throw in some scrap lumber pieces like 2x4's because they light off really easily (just don't used varnished or pressure treated wood).

Great ideas never thought about using the weed flame thrower from work. The reason I posted was we have so many boiler owners around my home with huge jugs of motor oil, I just kind of cringe. I try to be more conservative with what I burn. I'm no saint I burn cardboard and scrap untreated lumbers, and paper on occasion. I do burn green wood as well which puts me in the dog house. One guy 2 years ago that delivered me wood said they burn all their trash from the household, he said they sort what does not burn and what does burn and all burnable material goes into the boiler plastic whatever you name it. I just don't understand, that small amount of burnable trash does not amount to crap as far as heat. Maybe they are saving on the trash bill that is all I can think of. Some of the boiler owners admit they only burn tires at night so its as noticeable. I recently saw a video on you tube of a guy testing a home built gassifier and he threw in tires with really no visible smoke.. Can you really burn tires in a gassifier safety? Excuse my punctuation, not sure gassifier is a word, but you get my point.

I burn cardboard and paper products. I throw in a grocery bag (paper) fill with newspapers, cereal boxes, junk mail, etc every now and then. It saves on trips to the recycle drop off place and works better than shredding when it comes to sensitive documents. I don't burn plastic or treated anything, though I'll burn scrap lumber and so forth. I even throw in mice and get a couple BTUs from them when I empty a mouse trap...you're gonna eat my house, you can heat my house!

I throw 2 bags of charcoal in and light it up with a propane torch

75% used oil 25% bad gas ...make about a gallon,..into a 5gal bucket ...roll up the news paper and put them in stuff the bucket full add lid...leave outside boiler room , pull one out /like a pak of smoke's... Toss in boiler ad match ...fill up boiler shut door ..turn on fan ...go back the drinking beer!

Sounds Legit, I like the beer drinking part!!

i take a 5 gallon pail, fill it 3/4 full of fuel and put a softwood block in the bucket.
when i need to lite the stove i throw that block in and replace it with another one in the pail.
like a sponge.you hit it with the torch and away you go.burns for like 20 minutes
