Post by: dbarboy73 on February 28, 2011, 06:17:52 PM
going to start building a new owb I have a gasline pipe that is 1 inch thick with 1 inch thick plates for both ends.  Is this to thick  for the firebox or should i use a diffrent thickness?

The thicker you make the firebox the longer it takes to transfer heat through it and into the water. If I was building a furnace I would make sure the water jacket is really thick. Most of the mild steel furnaces that I have seen leak have been at the bottom of the water jacket where sediment built up.
