If I'm at about 40 drops on the nitrate test what do I do. Do I drain some out and refill? I have soft water available. Thanks
-
How old is the test kit?
-
Look for a date stamp on your permanganate bottle (the purple stuff) it is only good for 2 years from that date. It may give false high readings when it gets older. Nitrite levels do not go up on their own unless more corrosion inhibitor has been added.

I religiously purchase a new test kit every two years.. this year I had to purchase a new one ..old one says April 2015 and it already went bad. Just got one off e bay and I am at 17 drops. I am storing this one in the house.. not at the boiler

Did you purchase the whole kit or just the permanganate?
-
well I got some new permanganate, now its at 5 drops, lowest every. So is that good or bad?

did you get the bottle from central boiler or some other place. If you are doing the test by their method you will need to treat the water to get it back up. I had to buy a new bottle this year because mine was expired and was black .

If your test is accurate you will need to add 1/2 container of CB corrosion inhibitor to put you back into range of 15-30 drops
