hello all, I wanted some input on my workshop heater. Right now I have a hanging heater in my 30'x30'x10' workshop and although it does a good job keeping it warm here in the northern Michigan winter I was wondering if I dropped it down closer to the floor how much more warmth would I get out of it. The nice thing about it's current location is it's up out of the way. Also is better units out there for heating my work space. One thing I have to look at is I already have this unit. Thanks everyone.

A few things:
1: you can always rig up some kind of stop on the louvers so they blow down more.
2: install a ceiling fan. Just put two in my shop and the peak temperature is now always the same or within a degree of the thermostats are set for, used to be 15-30 degrees warmer at the peak.
3: could always move it to the floor and mount it under a workbench. I have one 50,000 btu heater under the bolt bin pointing at the metal lathe and Bridgeport and another under the refrigerator I store welding supplies in, it points right at the welding bench.

Not worth the effort to relocate lower. Modify louvers if necessary to direct some of the air flow down as mlappin suggested. Also direct air flow to opposite wall at an angle so the air better circulates around the room. Picture the air bouncing around the room like a ping pong ball bouncing off the walls. This will keep the heat more even in your shop.

My old shop was 30x50 with tall ceiling like 16' to the bottom of the collar ties. I put in 2 of the biggest ceiling fans I could get from Home Depot , like 5' across. I used to run them on low and what a difference it made in keeping the heat in the space and out of the rafters. It was a different space in there after that.

Thanks guys for all the input

What are the specs of your heater? Brand? BTUs? I need to add something similar and our winters here in Ohio are similar to what you guys get up north.

I do not know the brand as it was made by a little manufacturing facility. I believe it is a 100,000 btu unit
