Title: Central Boiler damper solenoids
Post by: Buckeyenut on March 06, 2017, 04:39:23 PM
Just wondering if anyone else has problems with these solenoids lasting. My 5036 is only been running a total of 9 months in the past two years and I've already had to replace 2 of these damper solenoids. Is there another solenoid to use other than the one central boiler sells? Am I doing something wrong? I scrap any creosote away as it starts to build up so it doesn't build around the damper opening. Any suggestions appreciated?

I am still using the original one on my 6048, never had a issue. Some times it make a humming noise ,that means it's not good contact so I spray it with WD 40 and good for 6 months or so !

Not sure what could be happening. Maybe erratic voltage?  Ive never had a problem with them. Got 2 seasons on my Edge now with no problems and before that I ran a 5648 for 13 years on the original solenoid.

I ran the solenoids on my homemade that Woodmaster used on theirs, never changed one in 15 years. I’m betting the ones I used are probably the same as the ones CB used as well as a slew of other companies. Could just be bad luck that you got a few faulty ones in a row.

If they get stuck and can not pull in they will burn up in a few minutes. At full stroke they draw something like 5 amps and seated less than 1/2 an amp.

Make sure your not getting air blowing down the chimney and out the damper.  This can cause a solenoid to go bad very quickly.
