Title: Yard chores and moose
Post by: Roger2561 on April 15, 2017, 04:48:00 PM
Well, this morning around 8:30 I was raking my lawn and decided I needed a break.  I looked up from what I was doing and a moose was watching me.  It was maybe 150 feet away.  It never offered to help rake my yard, the lazy cuss, all it did was walk away.  Fast forward to around 12:30pm.  The darned thing was back watching me work again, this time from 60 feet away.  I did get a picture but it didn't come out that great due to the strong sun.  If those things weren't so homely they'd be beautiful.  Roger

They are some huge animals I must say.  I would be so scared to hit one with my truck, I've heard some horror stories.

Nothing like moose here unless a full grown bovine gets on the road.

We do have sand hill cranes out the wazoo, and several nesting pairs of bald eagles across the road in the state park so I guess it’s finally good for something.

Believe me, from a guy who spent a lot of time / miles behind the wheel of a big truck here in the Northeast, in the spring and early in the morning when the bugs are out and the Swamp Donkeys are on the move, because of their dark color you can't see them until they are pretty much in the cab with you!
REALLY REALLY REALLY GOOD EATING THOUGH!

Back in my emergency medical days, I was returning home from an emergency call around 2:30am and had one walk right in front me.  I was less than a 1/4 mile from home.  Thankfully I had my headlights on high beam.  I slammed on my brakes and stopped less than a yard from it.  It looked at me as if to think, what's your problem"?  I can still see that huge rack.  I was in my pick up truck but if I had collided with it, it would have left a mark.  Roger

A bunch of us were coming out of the county in Maine one night in the early 80s when one of the guys hit one at about 75 Mph in a cab over Peterbuilt loaded with taters, neither lived to tell about it.

We had a male Golden Retriever that wasn't scared of anything. Well me and him were walking in the woods and the biggest bull moose I have ever seen jumped up in front of him, that dog ran straight home.
Laughed my a$s off.
