Post by: Ryan Horne on July 20, 2017, 10:57:51 AM
Hi Guys,
New to the site, and am the manufacture of Crown Royal Stoves! This is a new model that we are releasing soon and would like your opinions. It has a triple pass water filled heat exchanger and a turbo draft secondary combustion blower. Here a a brochure. There will be a total of 4 models.
Thanks,

Do the new models pass EPA standards? Just wondering as not only do we have to deal with federal regs here but Indiana passed their own as well.

These models are coal boilers.

We are tougher in the Northeast than even the federal Regs so a conventional no matter how good is out of the question here!

This is a standard model.   So coal or commercial use.

Welcome to the forum.

I was under the impression a coal unit had to be UL'd for coal only to be exempt.
Not a criticism, just a thought.

Looks somewhat like the C series we offer. Should run nice. Back when I had a grated unit I burned some coal. Loved the long burn times.
What other sizes will there be?

main difference would be top two passes are separated by water, and the tubes on top of firebox as well as the turbo draft on top.

Zero interest in coal in my area unfortunately, even the amish got away from it, course we pay like $225/ton up here while in southern Indiana it’s like $35 for a pickup load.

I think it's great to have manufacturers participating on this forum!

Here in Wisconsin coal is available several ways but one of the most economical ways is by totes like those pictured below on Don Liebelt's Website. (http://www.wisconsinoutdoorboilers.com/coal/) I forget now what he charges but per BTU it comes in close to buying wood depending how you figure it... What we're seeing, and it could be just in our area, is that people turning to outdoor boilers are usually trying to get away from recurring expenses and see buying coal as similar to buying propane. In our area, the HeatMaster G-Series and GS-Series are out-selling the C-Series boilers.

Location location location. If I could get a pickup load of coal for $35 I’d have some chainsaws up for sale in short order.

It is all about location, here in Minnesota there is not much coal burning. We use a large amount for testing but that is it. People in states like PA,WV,OH, coal is still a common use. They are paying around $165 a ton picked up. So if you have to buy your wood in log form for $100 per cord coal makes sense, because the BTU is upwards of 3 times the amount of wood.

We can pick up good coal for approx. $70 / ton in the summer, up maybe a bit in the winter. Had 5 ton delivered for $120 a ton. That's hard to beat.

Yoder,

Is that from Baystar or near Floyd?

I had heard Baystar was below $70 last summer. Dad had some delivered for $120, but I don't know where the hauler got it. Big lump coal, burned nice. I can pm you the haulers #, I think he's from out near Norton or Big Stone Gap. At that price to have it land beside your stove isn't bad.
