General Outdoor Furnace Discussion / Insulation Cellulose vs fiberglass
« on: January 05, 2014, 11:32:40 PM »
Well Im pulling the trigger and plan on blowing insulation into my walls. Im torn about what to use. My house has metal siding with old wood siding under that. Im seeing some really good things about the cellulose blown insulation. What are some perks of cellulose that you dont get with fiberglass and vise versa? Cellulose just seems to be the better choice and better bang for the buck IMO. I will be blowing this in from the outside. The house is 100+yrs old and has no insulation, Im tired of temps going up and down in the winter and summer. The house does not hold heat what so every nor does it keep heat out in the summer months. The main this is that cellulose has borate and Im not sure how this affects wiring over the yrs. And how to both handle moisture?? I know cellulose is mold "resistant" and fiberglass is not. What are some of your opinions....

How much does the size of wood you burn affect your stoves recovery time? This afternoon it was 6 outside. I was burning my kiln dried blocks which burn hot and seem to take less blower time to get going again. Well the house was at a comfy 72 to 73 in the house.
Tonight its down to about 3 to maybe 0 and I decided to throw in 3 big rounds that ranged from 18inches round to im gonna say 33inches was the biggest. The house is now at 68. Could the size of the wood you use affect the recovery time on your stove creating less heat to your home? Tonight was a good night to try it and so far it seems to be the case.

Anybody know of a good place to get fan blowers? Mine makes some unusual noise every so often. I want to get a backup but the one that is on it now it $170 :bash: it is a dayton 1/30hp. Not sure of exact model. Looking for one a little better priced.

General Outdoor Furnace Discussion / Return temps
« on: December 19, 2013, 01:57:26 AM »
I've been doing some reading on here about return temps and such. Ive never really paid much attention to this per my stove. Now I have the H4 with 3/4" 3 wrap pex making a 50ft run from the stove to the pump in my basement. Im running the taco0011. What should a good return temp be? Why does return temps really matter? Sorry for the stupid questions but I would really like to know. Whats the best way to check temps without installed temp gauges? As most of you know I have been having ALL KINDS of issues keeping my house sync with the Thermo stat. Maybe return temps could help me better understand if I am doing something wrong. I have the aqua stat set at 185 at the moment as we have been in the teens and single digits here the past 2 weeks. Would I check this temps on the back of the stove or in the basement where the pex meets the pumps?

General Outdoor Furnace Discussion / Insulation
« on: December 13, 2013, 12:03:34 AM »
Well I have been battling the cold lately. As you may all have read my other post about temps fluxing up and down in my house. The first half of the house was built in 1901, second half in the 50s or 60s. Now I had suspicion that a good bit of my heating problem is based off of poorly insulated house. Ive been doing some reasearch about spray insulation into walls (cant remember the name of the "new" materials used) and insulating the attic. Where would I benefit more by insulating? Im having someone come out and give me a quote to do the walls, not saying im going to but its def an option at this point. The attic is already partially insulated. And what about insulating the floors on the first floor? Would seem to be a pretty easy job for me to do that IF its benefical to do so.

General Outdoor Furnace Discussion / Automatic vent valves
« on: December 09, 2013, 08:33:27 PM »
Since I seem to have allot of issues with air in my baseboard lines would it be worth getting some automatic vent valves for each baseboard at each bleeder location? I also have a radiator in the basement that is tied into the first floor loop that Im sure holds a big pocket of air, thought about getting one for that to. Maybe this will solve my problem of my house not getting the proper heat... Thoughts on them?

General Outdoor Furnace Discussion / House temps up and down
« on: November 30, 2013, 07:06:19 PM »
Well last night it got dow. To 14 and my thermostat was set at 72. It was 68 in my house which I didnt think was bad at all. Now tonight its up near 30 and the thermostat is set at 76 and its 70 in the house. I dont get it. Why is there a 2 degree difference when its warmer outside? Now I have a 3speed pump running my first floor. I have a taco 007 running the upstairs which I know is way to small but it was there when I bought the place. But the upstairs is only a 2 degree difference no matter what???? Im lost and getting pissed. I just installed new insulated pipe so I dont loose heat. Is this maybe a sign of the pumps going?

General Outdoor Furnace Discussion / Finding my well
« on: November 20, 2013, 11:28:42 PM »
Lets just say I am not having any problems knock on wood. But Im the type of person I "want to know everything". Anyhow. I was down in the basement looking at my new insulated pex job and admiring it  :P and started thinking about where my well could be? Now there is a pipe that runs into the west side of my house threw the basement wall straight into my pressure tank. So I take it that I have a submercible<--- I spell that right lol. Now outside where the pipe runs in the basement I have about 10' to my shed and a concrete pad. Could it be real possible that the well is within that 10' distance of my home? I cant see it running under the concrete slab and out further. I would like to know where it is located incase I ever have to do some repairs..

Well this has been an ongoing thing around my area. A local farm was just sold this yr for $5mill. Moxie energy will be building a natural gas powerplant on this farm or I should say farm land. Now this will be constructed not even an 1/8 mile from my home. Im hoping someone on here has had experiance with this, but what will this do to my home value? I dont want any added traffic nor do I want the noise or pollution from it. I want to know if it will be safe for me to live there that close. I know people say there safe but what if something really happens and my ass gets blown to pcs! Is there a certain distance they have to be away from residental places? A few homes were already bought out but haven't heard if they would buy anymore. Kinda wondering if they will make me an offer??? This has me flustered pretty bad as I don't want to get screwed over with my home and pc and quite.....

General Outdoor Furnace Discussion / Tennessee Wood Stove info
« on: November 06, 2013, 08:00:28 PM »
A buddy of mine found a local dealer for Tennessee outdoor boilers, He hasnt talked to them yet but has been doing some research. He is trying to find out what the firebox and water jacket are made of I.E.. Stainless, Mild steel? None of the websites specify what they are made of. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Anyone with experiance with these stoves feedback would be great!

I am trying to get a video of me buring cardboard to help with the cleanout of creasote. Well my stove is still really clean and I want to get a video asap to send to some other members on here. Maybe some of you can post a small clip of you doing it then maybe it will get cold enough for me to finally get one, I just dont want to do one if I dont have build up. I wouldnt mind seeing a big ball of fire coming out of other stoves besides mine lol. Maybe this week I will try to get one..... Hopefully some of you will be able to post some good videos!

General Outdoor Furnace Discussion / Having issues adding pic

Well finally had a boiler guy come and make sure I had everything hooked up correctly after I put my new lines in. Now he has the H2 model so he is familiar with these stoves and how there hooked up. I have a Wilo 3-speed pump for one loop and a taco007 (I think) for the other, Now he said my 3speed is running the downstairs and the taco is running the upstairs? The dont make sense to me. I hope he is wrong and didnt understand what he was saying lol. Wouldnt you want the 3speed upstairs for the fact it can flow more?
