Portage & Main / Optimizer 250
« on: October 25, 2011, 07:56:03 PM »
I  have last years model of the 250 and just fired it up a few weeks ago.  Does anybody else have moisture (creosote) leaking around the front wood loading door.  I talked to Rory at P&M and he said it was normal for this time of year when the cycle times were short.  Also, what do you have the primary and secondary air adjustments set to, Rory said to set them at 10 and 5. My stove has the turbulators installed.   I love my Optimizer.   :thumbup:Thanks.

Electronics / Thermostat wiring
« on: October 01, 2011, 07:08:34 PM »
I got my P&M Optimizer fired up today, am real happy with it so far.  Had one glitch and need a little help.  I wired in a Honeywell L6006 aquastat in so I could control OWB and forced air gas furnace with one thermostat.  It worked fine except that I went ouside and heard my AC running.  I shut off 220 breaker to the AC and thought that would do it, it did shut off, but could hear humming coming from it, I assume a solenoid to turn it on?  I disconnected the thermosat wires going to the outside unit and everything is working fine.  I thought I had it wired right and it does work right ie:  when 6006 is set at 100* only the fan comes on.  I wired the R on the 6006 to the W on the thermostat, the B on the 6006 to the W on the furnace, and the W to the G terminals  on both therm. and furnace.  Didn't mess with the Y or comp. terminals at all.  Any ideas?  Thanks for the  help.  I did take pictures but  can't get them off my I phone.  Will try later.

Plumbing / Plate heat exchanger.
« on: September 19, 2011, 06:44:31 AM »
I'm in the process of hooking up my new Portage and Main Optimizer 250 and  have a question.  I have a 20 plate heat exchanger for my domestic hw.  Does it matter if you install the the exchanger in the upright position or can you lay in on its side with the outlets sticking toward you?(long ways horizontal).  Also does it matter which port if inlet and outlet?  It would plumb in a lot  easier to lay it on it's side.  Thanks for any feedback.
