General Outdoor Furnace Discussion / Fill your stove with wood
« on: February 05, 2012, 08:22:29 AM »
Wonerding if is a good idea to fill the stove with wood? The weather has been really mild here in Kentuckyand i have noticed that the stove is working very little. I filled it 3/4 of the way one night and didn't check that morning and went on to work. Checked it 24 hours later and it still had some wood in there but was very black like it was a charcoal. Is this good to do or not?

Pools & Hot Tubs / Hot Tub

Ok I have to ask. If I get a hot tube that would seat outside on my deck and use my OWB to heat it how would you control the temp. in the hot tube? If anybody is doing this I really would to know how it works. I don't want to hook it up to electric at all.

Well I have been keeping a very close eye on our electric usage the past week. In the past we were using around 250 to 300 kilowatts a day with the strips kicking in 90% of the time. We are down to using right at 55 kilowatts a day right now!!!! I wouldn't have never thought it would make that much of a difference but man has it ever. By the way we are keeping the house at 74 nice a warm instead of 69 and freezing. If I have figured right I will be saving right at 750 to 800 dollars a month. Man I wish I would have done this earlier maybe could have retired maybe not that far but I would have been able to take a good vacation.

That is pretty cool didn't know you could mix the 2. Just wondering what are the prices of coal and where do you get it at?

I have a 029 with a 20 inch bar and it sure will handle anything you want to cut. Keep the chain sharp and watch it mow the wood down!!

I change the difference this morning before I went to work and my wife called and said I think the stove has gone out. I said why do you think that she said I haven't seen any smoke come out of it all day. So that is great.

So if I keep the temp. at 160-165 with a 10-15 difference is that going to make for less wood usage and a better burn time with less smoke?

That is so true. Dave Youder out of Harrodsburg Ky. He really has been there every time that I have had a question. Even after he installed the OWB and got it going we sat down at my kitchen table and he went over everything and back thur the bill changing a few things that made the bill go down a couple hundred dollars!!! Imaging that a honest dealer and then after a week he sent me a letter saying that a price of something had changed and even now saving $13.99. If that had been your average dealer you would have paid the bill and never would have know the difference. I am very pleased with my purchase of a Heatmaster anthe service that I have gotten.

Hey baseball.  Glad to hear everything is going good for you!  Scrap that electric budget plan!  Won't be long til they'll be out checking your meter to see what happened lol

That is what I am hoping for. Might have to leave them a little note on the meter maybe saying "gone on vacation with all the money I am saving on the electric"

Thanks a lot Scott. The OWB is doing so good I was just making sure that I wasn't hurting it in anyway. Seems like if you can run at a lower temp. than it will save on wood consumption.

What do you keep you OWB temp at? I have been keeping ours at 160 with minus 7 cool down. It is doing good just want to make sure that I am not hurting the stove in any way.

Well I am going to stand up for my dealer and installer. I have a Heatmaster MF10000E model and we love it. I read for months before I bought one and even went and looked a several in my area. They all have their ups and downs. The gentleman that installed mine went above and beyond to make sure we are happy with our purchase. He has been back to make sure everything is going great and has answered ever time that I call him with questions. The price I paid was in line with ever other OWB that I had looked at. I have an old farm house that has very little insulation in it. It is heating our house and heating our hot water and man the wife loves the hot water. My electric bill has dropped to a fourth of what is was. This is just my opinion on the matter.
