General Outdoor Furnace Discussion / Re: Anyone have all electric and OWB?
« on: January 20, 2012, 08:32:03 PM »
My house is all electric. It is about 6000 square feet. I have 3 heat pumps with srtipe backup heat. Our bill in the past have been running around 750-900 a month in the winter and keeping the house at 70. I installed my stove on Jan.5 and have been keeping up with the electric usage on a daily bases. i am only using about 60 or less kilowatts a day so that would be 1800 in a month so that breaks down to 158.00 a month. That is keeping the house at 74 nice and toasty with an endless amount of hot water. Here in Kentucky I would say about 4 months of winter. So it will pay for it self in 2.5 years. We are cutting our own wood. Hope this helps you.

Before the OWB we was keeping the house set at 70 and very cold and the heat pumps and heat stripes running like a bunch of wild dogs. We pay a budget payment of 475 to 520 every month before I installed the stove. I know that I am now down to only spending about 200 at the highest for the total bill. I am keeping a daily track of usage. That is keeping the house set at 74 now and man that makes a difference. Now i can seat down and watch sone tv without having to get down in my snuggie to keep warm. That was a joke!!! I really appreciate all for the comments just seeing how good the stove is doing.

My house is about 6000 square feet. We used to keep the temp. at 70 and was still little cold while using about 7000 kilowatts in the winter on a good month and when it got really cold out could be well over 9000 so I am happy so far with I see but like everything I am guessing that I can do better. Also my stove is using what I would think is a low average of wood and we are only checking it 2 a day. Have the temp. set at 160 and it is keeping up fine. If you guys know of anything that I could do it would be appreciated very much and thanks for helping.

I did adjust the door but I couldn't tell that the stops moved much at all. I also checked the fan and didn't notice anything blocking it from being level but I did see some smoke coming from the bottom of the fan. Is that normal?I

The wood is seasoned. It is like it seats there just smoking. Now i have had a little boiling over.

Need to ask about smoke. I put our furnace about 100 foot from the house. I am having a terrible time with the smoke pushing back and coming towards the house and you can smell it all the time. How tall of a stack can i put on it so that it will go away from the house?

Thanks a lot for the comments. Now i need some help getting a log splitter. Which one is the best buy? I have been lucky to find a guy that is selling me loads of wood really cheap but i am sure that he will run out soon. I have enough wood to last a month i think. I also have a guy that will bring logs to my house and all I have to do is cut and split so let me know what is the best dollar value?

Ok here are a couple pictures of the stove and the pad. I plan on cover the front part of the pad up so when we stack wood up there it will be out of the weather. http://i125.photobucket.com/albums/p72/runthemdogs/stove1.jpg
