Yes, the diverter is just a way to clean out chimney area. Should be closed during the heating season.

Site Suggestions / Re: Cant login

Omg, I just got back on the website/forum. I've been gone for over a month. I changed my email message and could not logon. I tried all of the "avenues" to reactivate my account and have my password sent to me and nothing worked. The bad part of this dilemma is, you cannot contact anyone on the forum for help. You end up on the outside looking in. I scrounged up a couple of user email addresses and sent them a SOS message asking for help. They probably thought I was crazy. Anyway, its a miracle, I'm back. 1ELVIS is correct. I never got a message in ANY of the email addresses I tried. And yes I looked in all of the spam folders and junk folders and never got a message. Never got a reactivation number on the new accounts I tried to set up. If any administrator or moderator reads this, there is a problem. I'm not harping or condemning this site at all, I'm hoping for a fix for this problem. I absolutely love this forum. There isn't anything like it out there.

Elvis........the owners manual is on the Ridgewood Website. Section 4 page 18 explains how to adjust the differential on the stove. It's not a big deal to set and comes in handy when the outside temperature swings. Hope this helps.

This will be my second year as well. Getting ready to install a new Ridgewood 8 ft (I believe it's schedule 80) stove pipe along with cleaning her up for another season. Oh, and cutting, splitting and stacking wood............

Hello everyone........I attempted to get this post moved to the Ridgewood Stove area, but that didn't happen......it is stuck in the General Outdoor Furnace Discussion........so, I thought I'd place a url here so folks can use this information. Hope this helps.

Not a lick of trouble during my first year. In fact I'm still running the stove at this time.

Compared to past winters, this one has been brutal. Everyone is using more wood and many are running out. I figure I've used around 13-14 full cords this year. It does vary and depends on how well your home is insulated, how much you are heating, wood quality, etc. Bottom line is if your water stays warm, your draft door doesn't open.

Good choice UP Doug. Very simple stove and works well. Lit mine in October and haven't had one problem.

ms1780.........you can adjust the temp differential so the damper will open sooner if you run into problems. Like Speed said,,,,the coal bed is your friend. Once you establish a good bed of coals, it will burn just fine for you.
