If you can put one inside your barn and keep the mess out of your house and save a few bucks I say go for it.

Back the truck over the slab and build an A frame out of 4x4's, raise it up and drive out from under it then lower it into place.

In my garage I used an old electric baseboard thermostat, it has 2 wires and I just broke the hot (black) wire with it and it works fine.

I think I would pour it all the same and just pour around the 2 six inch drain pipes

I think the best is a genrac that uses LP or natural gas if available. no problem storing the LP and the genny starts it's self weekly to test it's self.

Hardy / Re: Hooking up a Hardy H2

That is what I would do, you will only need to run 1 set of lines that way. In my hook up I made my lines and ran 2- 4 inch drain lines with 2-  3/4 inch insulated pex lines in each, one for the heat exchanger and one for the hot water and it does work but with what I have read and learned on here it would work better if I would have done it the other way.

That close I would buy the best 1 inch I could find and use a plate heat exchanger for the hot water heater. It will be less trouble in the long run.

just my 2 cents

I used 3/4 but if I had to do it again I would go 1 inch. If you use the coil inside for your hot water the 3/4 will be fine there. How far are you running your lines?
