General Outdoor Furnace Discussion / Re: firebox wall thickness
« on: October 05, 2011, 02:58:39 PM »
jackel , good points..but dont forget that the water on the other side is still hot 165,not stone cold 65 deg water  my on cycle time is about 2-3 times longer then the average 400 gal owb.but i have 3 times thewater capacity at 1200+gals.with that said i dont see how im wasting heat.thicker material has more durability benefits. thick steel and large capacity of water has also resulted a really clean furnace, little to no smoke after a hour or less of burning . i am just giving my 2 cents based on my real world results and not by speculation or theory.

not sure where your located, but here in mass if you put a vent in a floor and there was a fire ,insurance co .could refuse coverage cause you create a fire draft thru the floor.something to check into if you go with that option.

2 options..go to a machine shop with old one,and have them make i with heavier material. or if you can make it yourself, get a 1''shaft collet or what ever size dia hyd motor is. get 1/2""plate ,center collet on it and weld it on .install on motor ,turn on motor and spin, finding the center mark diameter of cone, trim excess steel ,clamp cone to plate and drill bolt pattern. save your money and will probably be stronger.

have you thought about not pushing the tank ''firebox'' all the way in ,say leave it out 4-5'' that will give you the rear of stove submerged  and alittle bit of stack exiting thru as well.why not run stack up thru water ?

thats the most usefull info i have ever seen!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :bag: :bag: :bag: :bag: :bag: :bag: :bag: :bag: were do these a holes com from?  cant they just leave us simple, common ,working man alone!

are you in the business? thats the most foolish thing i have ever seen posted on here.  :bag: ever think of consumption ? oil burner guys say 1200-1400 gallons before cleaning, gas is 2 times or more cleaner ,that puts it at2500 -3000 gallons before a cleaning. however, any one with gas appliance should check connections, fittings as well as flu pipe, annually.

RSI ,what are you powering the motor with? Most skidsters with extra hydraulics are any where from 15 to 20 gpm.

I have made my pipe similiar to what you are considering, and have hsadgood results. Some may say that you should buy the good stuff. I believe you can get the same insulation factor as store bought products but the water proofing is the important part.if you have A high water table or you think this could be a problem for you then buy a good quality brand . Where I'm located I have nothing but sand and lines. Are buried 5' deep. Why are you doing 4 line.  I would buy the 200 deg pex ,don't think it will be much of a price difference.  Ppp

Rsi, do you have any type of gearbox in between hyd motor and cone . If not ,you most  likely won't ever see peak hp of motor. You will have to gear it some how.

Haven't checked site in a while, but Im still on the cone kick! Got a friend who might be able to get me a hydraulic auger set up. So been holding off on buying cone till I get that. Also recently added mini excavator  to toy box ,has extra plummed hyd and quick coupler so will be a easy build. With temps over a 100 yesterday who wants to think about wood.
