There was still plenty of wood in the stove. I'm going to try and turn off power to maybe "reset" ?

My shop is plumbed with supply coming from the top. Return is entering the bottom. I have not yet plumbed the house which will be the largest load of the two. Does anyone foresee a problem plumbing the house opposite the shop?  Will the house try and pull cooler water from the shop return if I swap configuration?  I know some suggest opposite from what the factory manual states, but wanted to know what field results I could experience. Thanks in advance for any responses.

Love the 2840. Very efficient for a conventional OWB. I live in KY. Purchased mine early this year. Shop is hooked up and running. Working on house design. Can't wait to heat all structures....

Yes. I'm mixing wood.  Turned back to 190. Water level never changed. Probably only lost about 1/2 gallon. Stay warm...

Portage & Main / 2840 Very HOT
« on: November 26, 2014, 09:17:45 PM »
Tonight I experienced what I would call the pre-stage to a boil over.  I turned the shop fan coil fan to the on position.  Calling for constant heat.  I was in the shop for about 30 minutes and stepped out to, well, get another refreshing beverage.
Glanced over at the boiler and saw the float dancing from HEAVY steam.  The aqua stat was still calling so I changed to 185 to shut down the blower.  It was showing 187.  I've had mine set at 190 +/- 10 since November 8, 2014.  Never had an issue until tonight.  Probably not an issue, but would like to hear a few comments.  I was burning white oak from a 250 year old tree recently cut down.  Yes.  250 year old white oak.  Maybe the Gods have blessed me with exceptionally good wood.  The stove was not overloaded and it is not THAT cold here.  About 25 degrees outside.  Shop was a toasty 74.

Does anyone know where I may look / purchase an older ornate radiator ?   I don't mind to drive a couple hundred miles from Louisville,KY to purchase.   Thanks.

Installing a few myself.  Make sure they have passage ways at the top of the rad.  I made the mistake of purchasing a true 1 pipe steam radiator.  Beautiful piece, but is going to be converted into a yard ornament.  Still looking for a couple ornate radiators for a large room in the house.  Floors will all have 1/2" pex with UltraFin attached.  Looking forward to the warm floors....

If you are looking for an excellent maul, don't pass up at least looking at the link below. I ordered one about 2 months ago. WELL worth the money / very satisfied with the Fiskars X27.

General Outdoor Furnace Discussion / One pipe radiator steam conversion.
« on: November 22, 2014, 07:07:01 AM »
I may have jumped too early. I bought a beautiful cast iron radiator only to realize that it is a one pipe rad. I found a valve to convert to water, but I've read that only if the rad has push nipples across the top that this valve will work. This rad does not. It is only held together at the bottom. The fins are free standing, or nothing that hold them together. Looking forward to any help.

Maxnchej.
Glad to see yours reduced.   Mine is essentially gone as well.  The higher elevated temps with a 10 degree diff helps with the hot burns.  I believe it's not so much a HOT burn as it is a L O N G E R burn time....
