General Outdoor Furnace Discussion / Warm weather...
« on: March 12, 2012, 07:53:29 PM »
With the warm weather here in Minnesota I am loving the wood consumption (or lack there of) but I am not liking the build up of creosote! How am I ever going to clean that out of my P&M?

Burning oak or maple which wood is going to give me more heat? If the same or close, give me maple way better to cut & split than oak... Thoughts?

Portage & Main / Smoke from door on ML 30
« on: January 15, 2012, 09:46:25 AM »
I have an ML 30 and have been working long hours so I have been packing her full the last few days, now that winter has showed up here in Minnesota. I have noticed that when I am done loading and I close the door and she is in a burn cycle I get smoke/steam from around the door. The wood I am burning is far from dry, and it seems to burn fine. Is this anything that I should worry about? Would it be affecting the performance?

Plumbing / Re: Heat exchanger in attic
« on: January 07, 2012, 11:58:05 PM »
My furnace is in my attic, and I have a water to air exchanger and I run my pump 24/7 works like a champ in my 100+ year old farmhouse. Best part is that I'm not going to pen $5,000.00 in LP this winter! The hardest part was that I had to tear open the side of my house to run the lines in. But a few good thing come of that new window in the kitchen where there was not one (wife loves that), put insulation in a wall that had none (no more frozen pipes in kitchen), and new cement siding on that part of the house(the rest is brick).

Electronics / Re: Reznor unit heater
« on: December 07, 2011, 12:19:11 PM »
I did not check voltage. But there is a 24v transformer on the back. I put the jumper in withe power off to unit. I turn t-stat all the way down not calling for heat and turn power back on and the fan comes on and stays on until I cut power. Hard to work on I have to remove fan and cage for fan to get at sensors. Heats up space fast using gas and blowing thru the hx  :D but I sure would love to turn off the gas!

Inside the back on the bottom there are three sensors on that has 2 black wires when I jump around that one the fan is on all the time. Another had green/yellow jump that seemed to do nothing. Run out of time the the one the two wires go to the gas valve.

Electronics / Reznor unit heater
« on: December 06, 2011, 10:40:33 PM »
Hey had my house up and running for a bit now but I was waiting for a few fittings to finish my garage install. Now I got all the plumbing hooked up, I need to figure out the thermostat. In my house I just added a second thermostat and use it to switch the fan on. But the reznor heater needs to have the flame run for a bit before the fan kicks on so how do I get around that? I tried a jumper around the sensor and the fan won't shut off. Any ideas?

General Outdoor Furnace Discussion / Wood consumption
« on: November 29, 2011, 10:46:06 AM »
I am new here and new to wonderful world of owb. I am loving the fact that other than my dryer I am free from the gas man! I have a P&M ML 30 heating my house and large pole garage (no dhw yet might have to wait till next year). My question is I stock it about every 12-14 hours morn & eve and it seems like no mater what I put in it it burns. I mean if i put in six chunks of wood it burns thru it and I have a few larger coals left but for the most part the wood is gone, and if I fill it full I have the same result maybe my chunks of burt wood are a little bigger but for the most part wood is gone. This make any sense or am I just needing a little more experience?

Portage & Main / Re: P&M ML30 - First Impressions
« on: November 16, 2011, 02:23:19 PM »
I finished about 90% of my install last Thursday and fired up my ML30 for the first time. So far like how it is operating. My 100+ year old farmhouse has never been this warm. The best part when I load her up, I look right at the big propane tank that it will take my gas clothes dryer years to empty ;D ;D!! All I have to do now is finish the hook up in my shop, and put the siding back on that I had to tear off to get my lines into the atic where my furnace is located.
