General Outdoor Furnace Discussion / Re: Stove loadersI'm
« on: October 24, 2012, 11:58:08 AM »
I have a similar situation, in that my wife does like lifting the heavier logs. My solution is to make a seperate piles/pallets of "pecker" wood for her to load. Any wood smaller than 8 or 9 inches goes in "her "pile, larger stuff goes in mine. I might even split a few big logs down for her, rather than build/buy more stuff.

Fire Wood / Re: Wood storage platform

Built this 12x36 shed for my winters wood. The rear wall height is 6', its 10' at the doors (4/12 pitch). Doors are recycled metal roof, siding is cedar, milled with logosol basic mill and Jonsered 2172 ripping saw, refters also milled on site. Only items purchased were 16', 4x4 posts for front of building (4 posts)and a few bags of quickcrete. Other posts were salvaged, as were roof boards (1x12 pine) (from neighbors 1950ish, tear down garage)

General Discussion / Cooking in my Central Boiler
« on: January 03, 2012, 12:35:30 PM »
Got the idea to use my Central Boiler 6048 to cook in. Using a cast iron dutch oven, I have successfully prepared stews, chili, bread, and some desserts. I refer to a dutch oven cookbook for recipes, then place the dutch oven in the corner of my boiler, with a few coals on the lid of the dutch oven, for even cooking.
I have noticed that traditional cooking times may be reduced slightly. I assume the boiler cooks more quickly than a traditional campfire with coals. Does any one else use their oudoor wood furnace for cooking?

Didnt check every post, but did not notice many Jonsered saws listed. I do my big work with a Jon 2171, Medium work/most work with Jon 2065 and Husq 359, keep a Husq 51 as a backup/light work saw. Love em all
