Central Boiler / Re: My 5036 appears to burning a lot of wood at night

I second patton acres reply with the wheelbarrow idea, works great for me reguardless of wind direction, if its windy i am in the habit of putting it against the door, but as they said wood quality is very important, I'll burn what cottonwood, poplar, and junk i have on the warm days and the ash, oak, and maple for the -40 deg. windchill nights and days,i get longer burns and bad azz coal beds! just what works for me?! keep tryin diffrent things good luck!

Central Boiler / Re: Cl5036 high temp/ water boil issues

i am on my second year with my 5036 and had the same issue you are having, last year my stove did this 3 times, here is what i did... i kept the door rope clean of crusties and the door face(on the stove), still was having the issue, so i would take off the luvered cover over the dampner door and scrape the crusties off of the damper door were it contacts the main door and also scrape the maiting surface and it seemed to work, but i did this weekly. I was consurned that this was a problem(i shouldnt have to do this so often) My stove was only doing this on warm and most often windy days, so i kept in contact with my dealer about this issue, they were very helpful with giving me suggestions and i tried all of them. I did notice the door rope had a groove in it were it met the stove face and you could tell the door was not square to the stove, one side of the rope in one corner was touching the stove on the edge of the rope, so in the off season i took the door of and took it to the dealer and they replaced the intire door(They agreed the hinge pin holes were not drilled square to the door) also the damper door was not sitting good on the door(very small gap on the top side) so basically my stove was "burning" all the time and it created the "temp creep" issue. I have been burning with the new door( the new one is nice and square to the stove face, rope seal meets stove in middle all around) since middle of sept. this year and have had much better luck, i do still check the crusties on damper door and keep it clean to insure a good seal, but it is a diffrent stove now! hope you get yours figured out..

So is it common to have to replace the rope seal yearly?

thanks so much for the advice! have been watching this fourm for a couple years, searching for questions i have had and usually find the answers on here, reguarding your reply, i have seen on here that people replace there door rope seal and silicone it to help fix this problem(seal stays somewhat flexible)? this was the first year on this stove and rope seal is hard on bottom. i have had 1 "boil" on stove, it was the first time i reqinized this problem and was on a sunday morning, went out and stove was at 205 and was about 15-20gal. low on water(think it was the damper door crusted up), never went that high again but don't want it to! What's the best treatment for the rope seal? This was what i thought all along as the rope will have a hard time sealing when it is rock hard??

i have the factory shipped 8 ft.(2 4' sections) installed with no cap,  i will remove 1 section and try that, i understand the hot flue pulling hard on the seals of the door and damper, anyone else with this issue, i would love to burn all summer but when it's 90deg. outside what will happen then??? could i adjust the door latch cam bolt to pull the door down tighter or will that increase the risk of door fractures? i only burn seasoned wood(not covered) but seam to get alot of the black crusty crosote, condensation, running down the damper door face and hardining of the rope seal at bottom of door? Thanks, Ryan

Central Boiler / 5036 temp. creep?
« on: August 29, 2013, 10:32:48 AM »
Hello, newbie here but a vetrin wood burner! I installed a new 5036 boiler last summer and last winter was my first year burning it, Love the stove! much better than the woodstoves in the house! But i did have 1 issue with the stove that my dealer called temp. creep, what happened approx. 3 times last year was the stove would increase in temp. just setting idle, slowly but surely the temp would rise degree by degree, until i would scrape the underside of the dampner door and where it meets the door, and i continued to do that about once weekly, seemed to work until i came home from work and found the temp. creeping again( max setting on auquastat is 180) i was at 190 and it continued to climb slowly but surely to say 198 until i kicked the furnace and hot water on to lower temp, went out and scraped the doorframe and rope seal, seemed to work, but this is hapeening on warm(60-70degree) days, my dealer has been helpful and sugessed door crack but found none, rope seal has a good crush line around it and dampner door seals well(checked with feeler guage) dealer suggested propping a wheelbarrel up in front of door too limit wind around dampner door, this has been my only worry with this stove i do not want it getting to hot when i am not around, has anyone else had this issue and if so what are some remidies! Thank you, Ryan
